Bun B's Trill O.G.: Where Does It Stand With The Source's Other Five-Mic Albums?

5 August 2010 1:54 PM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

By Jeremy Kaplan

Bun B's latest album Trill O.G., which dropped this week, has become the latest recipient of the vaunted five mics from The Source, the first LP to grab the honor since Lil' Kim's 2005 release, The Naked Truth. Although a number of rap albums were eventually bumped up from an initial less-than-five or non-existent rating (either because they were re-considered or because their release dates preceded the magazine's founding), Bun's solo record is one of only 14 albums to get the Source's five mics immediately upon release, marking it superior from the get-go.

And although he's nearly 20 years into the game, Bun still considers himself a late prodigy, as he told our Mixtape Daily recently. Since the tragic death of his Ugk brother in 2007, Pimp C, Bun has turned his attention to his solo career. Now, with the release of Trill O.G., Bun can bask in the moment, »

Sam Raimi Boards Sci-Fi Western ‘Earp: Saints For Sinners’

19 July 2010 8:45 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Sam Raimi will shoot Oz, The Great and Powerful next year, but he already has his next film lined up at Dreamworks, Heat Vision reports.

He will direct Earp: Saints For Sinners, an adaptation of a Radical graphic novel that takes Wyatt Earp and gives it a sci-fi twist. The film is “set in a future in which he [Earp] takes on outlaws in a ravaged society where the only boomtown left is Las Vegas.” Matt Cirulnick (Paid In Full) is writing the script and he also created the comic.

Radical will provide more details at Comic-Con this week. Raimi seems to have a lot of projects in store, including the highly discussed World of Warcraft, so I’m kind of surprised he is rumored to shoot this directly after. It seems like an interesting premise, especially fitting with Raimi’s schlocky style in Evil Dead.
