This won’t come as much of a surprise given that virtually every other animated property in its back catalogue is set for the live-action treatment, but THR is reporting that Disney is in development on a musical, live-action take on its very first animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
The live-action remake is being scripted by Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train), and is said to expand upon the story and music from the 1937 original, with new songs from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land).
We’ve had a couple of live-action Snow White tales recently in Mirror Mirror from Relativity and Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, both of which were released in 2012. Meanwhile, Disney has also announced plans for a movie based around Snow White’s sister Rose Red.

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs gets added to the list of live action takes on Disney animated hits...
In a surprise to pretty much nobody on planet Earth, it’s been revealed that Disney has added a live action take on Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs to its collection of remakes of its animated classics. The news follows the announcement of a live action The Lion King last month.
The only slight shock in this instance, really, is that it’s taken so long. Still, the studio’s original animated success is set to be put into the hands of screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson, who was the scribe who adapted The Girl On The Train for the big screen.
No director has been announced at this stage.
Disney is developing a new, live-action movie musical of “Snow White,” which will expand upon the story and music from the animated classic.
Prolific producer Marc Platt will produce. No director or actors are attached yet.
Disney is also working on a spinoff of sorts to “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” following Snow White’s sister. “Rose Red” will also be a live-action film, joining Disney’s slew of live-action reboots on the horizon.
Disney has been in talks with Guy Ritchie to direct its live-action “Aladdin” movie. Dan Lin, who produced Ritchie’s two “Sherlock Holmes” movies for Warner Bros., is also producing “Aladdin” through his Lin Pictures company. Jonathan Eirich is exec producing.

“Pete’s Dragon” director David Lowery will helm a live-action “Peter Pan” movie for Disney, TheWrap has learned. Lowery will reteam with “Pete’s Dragon” co-writer Toby Halbrooks. “Peter Pan” is joining a long list of live-action properties planned at Disney: “Beauty and the Beast” is set for a 2017 release, and Emma Stone is attached to star in “Cruella De Vil.” Tim Burton‘s upcoming “Alice Through the Looking Glass” is hitting theaters on May 27. Disney is developing a live-action film based on the story of Snow White’s sister, Rose Red. Also Read: Disney's 'The Jungle Book' »

Suicide Squad: Reportedly, new footage for Suicide Squad is being shot right now with the goal of altering the tone of the movie to bring in "more of the lightness to which audiences responded" in an early trailer. The idea is to beef up "fun character moments and interactions." Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis star; the movie will open in theaters on August 5. [BirthMoviesDeath] Rose Red: Snow White's sister Rose Red will be featured in a new Disney live-action movie. Fairytale revisions are still all the rage in Hollywood. Yet another live-action take on Snow White's classic tale has just been picked up by Disney, according to THR. The script — written by Justin Merz — was originally focused on Rose Red, another protagonist from Grimm's Fairytale with no relation to Snow White. Until writer Evan Daugherty got an idea. I know, I know. You're rolling your eyes at the thought. But Daugherty has already tweaked the Snow White story before with Snow White and the Huntsman (which I really liked) and the upcoming The Huntsman: Winter's War (which I'm dying to see). He was also one of the writers on Divergent (another fave) and he's prepping the new Tomb Raider. All of that tells me that he's committed to giving ladies some kickass stories and this new Rose Red adaptation sounds like that's exactly what we're looking at. This time around, »

Rose Red: Snow White's sister Rose Red will be featured in a new Disney live-action movie. The character originated in a German fairy tale that has nothing to do with the fairy tale adapted for the animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (above). Justin Merz wrote a screenplay that was then reworked by Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) into an idea that mixes the two fairy tales, bringing Rose Red into the more familiar story to try and save her sister after Snow White...

In a time when it seems people are finally starting to sicken of sequels generally, and revisiting bare wells specifically, another spin on Snow White might not be quite what everyone is desperate to see, but Disney has something in mind they think will be a treat.
Besides, Disney is pretty fond of getting all they can out of whatever wells they have.
The story here is actually a reworking of the classic tale that has Snow White’s sister, Rose Red, trying to break the curse at the end of the story you know.
The film is going to be produced by Tripp Vinson, who seems to be aiming at a specific, well-centric label. Already working on a prequel to Aladdin, and a film that focuses on Prince Charming, Vinson’s production studio is going to great lengths to build its own pigeonhole of fairy tale revision.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is developing a new film based on the character Snow White's estranged sister, Rose Red. The screenplay was written by Justin Merz which included a pitch from Evan Daugherty. Daugherty's credits include Universal Pictures' "Snow White And The Huntsman", Paramount Pictures' "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", and Summit Entertainment's "Divergent."
This take on the Snow White classic is said to be:
"A revisionist take that transposes Rose Red into the Snow White tale, making her a key player in the later part of the classic story. When Snow White takes a bite from the iconic poison apple and falls into her Sleeping Death, her estranged sister, Rose Red, must undertake a dangerous quest with Grumpy and the other dwarves to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life."

Disney have announced that they are planning a brand new live-action Snow White movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new film will focus on Snow White’s sister, Red Rose, and will tell the classic story from her point of view.
The trade reports that the film, which will be called Red, ‘was initially written as a stand-alone feature, but then Daugherty came up with a new take that made the story closer to the animated classic, giving Rose a “companion piece” feel.’

Disney is set to make a new live-action Snow White film, although this one will revolve around her sister, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The new film is set to have a “revisionist” feel that would add Snow White’s sister Rose Red into the story. Justin Merz (The Boxcar Children) has written the script for the proposed project, from a pitch by Evan Daugherty.
Grimms’ fairy tales was where Rose Red first appeared, although her story had no links or relation to the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs story that was made into the classic (and first) Disney animated film in 1937.
Merz’s original story for Red was to be a more “stand-alone” film, but the new take by Daugherty has brought the story closer to the original animated film so it’s more of a “companion piece” that sees Rose Red and the dwarves undertaking a dangerous quest »

Disney is adding a live action Snow White tale to its roster - albeit with a bit of a twist...
It’s got a film in the stove called Rose Red, the idea for which originally came from Evan Daugherty, who penned the two Huntsman movies. Justin Merz has taken over scripting duties, and the film will focus on the Grimm fairy tale character of Rose Red. The twist, though, is she’s now Snow White’s estranged sister.
After a string of successful live-action fairy tale adaptations such as Maleficent and last year's Cinderella, Disney is exploring yet another iconic character, with a revisionist twist. The Hollywood Reporter reveals the studio has picked up a project entitled Rose Red, which follows the story of Snow White's sister. While fairy tale fans may recognize the Rose Red name, the project will present an entirely new story.
Rose Red is a character who did appear in the original Grimm Brothers' fairy tale, but she was featured in a different adventure separate from the story which the iconic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was inspired by. This new project started as an original script by Justin Merz (The Boxcar Children), which was envisioned as a stand alone movie. Screenwriter Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) came up with a different take described as a "companion piece" that sticks »
Fans of Snow White are not going to pleased. Following on from The Huntsman: Winter’s War’s decision to do away with Kristen Stewart’s Snow White entirely in favor that film's supporting players, we’ve now learned that Disney’s own live-action adaptation will instead primarily revolve around Snow White’s sister, Rose Red, instead of the traditional heroine. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has decided to pick up this project after being hugely impressed by a pitch by Evan Daugherty based on Justin Merz’s script. Usually overshadowed by her more famous sister, the character of Rose Red actually appeared in a number of The Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales. None of these were related to Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, which Disney iconically brought to life back in 1937. However, while Justin Merz originally wrote a »
With Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" essentially taking out Disney's chance at a gritty, live-action revisionist take on their classic animated "Snow White" film, the studio has decided to adopt a different approach.
The studio has picked up both a script by Justin Merz and a pitch by 'Huntsman' script writer Evan Daugherty which reworks the tale. The story? A revisionist take which focuses on Rose Red, a sister to Snow White.
Though Rose Red is a character that appeared in Grimms fairy tales, it is in an adventure that had no relation to the more well known "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves". Merz's penned 'Red' as a stand-alone feature, but then Daugherty came up with a new take which makes the story closer and more of a "companion piece" to the animated "Snow White".
In the new take, Rose Red is now inserted into the Snow White »

Snow White's sister is going to be a movie star and inject some needed girl power into the classic Disney tale. Wait, sister? That's right, Snow White has a sibling and she appears to not be the type to hide away from danger, whistle while she works to clean up after a bunch of dwarves or accept food from strangers. Disney is working on a live-action film called Rose Red, which tells the story of Snow White's estranged sister, The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday. The movie sees Rose Red going on a "dangerous quest" with the seven dwarves to try and break the Sleeping Death curse cast upon Snow White, after the princess ate the Evil Queen's poisoned »
Hollywood can't seem to get away from Snow White. In 2012 audiences were served with two movies about the fairy tale character: "Mirror Mirror" and "Snow White And The Huntsman." Four years later, we're getting a prequel to that latter film with "The Huntsman: Winter's War," which the marketing has made clear will tell us about the story before Snow White. Now, Disney is cooking up a movie that will be a sideways look at the character. THR reports that the mouse house is developing "Rose Red," which will focus on Snow White's sister. Hooray? The live action movie will come from the pen Evan Daughtery ("Snow White And The Huntsman," ironically enough), who took an original pitch by Justin Merz titled "Red" and tied it into the original fairy tale. Snow White has a sister, and she's getting a movie.
It's news to us that the Disney Princess has a sister, appropriately named "Rose Red", but apparently she exists in the original Grimm's fairy tales, and she's going to be the main focus in a revisionist telling of the original Snow White story.
We all believed it was Prince Charming that saved Snow White from the Evil Queen's poisonous apple, but inFrozen-like fashion, this film has Snow White being saved by her sister. We're loving the promotion of sisterly bonds, strong women, and women who help another out being incorporated into Disney films lately. Rose Red looks like it'll follow in the steps of turning fairytale conventions on their heads, and giving strong messages to young girls.
We've seen a lot of different takes on the Snow White story, but this one looks to be incredibly promising and will hopefully »

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the House of Mouse has hatched a live-action “companion piece” designed to tell the famous tale from the perspective of Rose, with screenwriter Justin Merz and Evan Daugherty – creative mind behind Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman – developing a revisionist take on the classic fairytale.
First appearing in Grimms’ legendary stories, Rose Red was a character originally introduced in a plot unrelated to the inimitable Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, where the two sisters sided with a friendly bear to bring an evil, out-of-control dwarf down to size.
This time round, Merz and Daugherty will be splicing the two stories together, implementing Rose into the classic Snow White tale we know and love »
