This show ROCKS!, 12 December 2004

The writers/producers of this series deserve a lot of credit. Somehow
they've created an edgy, often wickedly funny animated series that
conveys a healthy family in which everyone has importance; old people
are still valued (Uncle rules!), girls are smart, cute, and kick butt
(Jade IS all that), and the family can include close friends (Toru and
his mom). The story lines are interesting and unusual. My kids love it
and so do I. Yes, not like, love. If only most prime time shows were
this well crafted. The problem for us is - UPN and Fox canceled this
gem in favor of some unwatchable crapola!!! AIIYAAA!! How do we bring
it back? Anyone know?
If DVD's were available, that would be cool too.

One Of The Coolest American Cartoons Ever!!, 24 August 2003

Well, you see I'm more of an anime fan. So this is the best American
cartoon ever made, and i've notice that they did pay some tribute for
anime which is a big improvement over the lousy Totally Spies.
As for it being a fictional Celebrity-based Cartoon, I've never thought
any of the Celebrity based cartoons would even match with the MR.T
cartoon. But as usual Jackie Chan proves that no one makes a better
real-life superhero than him. It also one of my three favorite Waner
Bros. cartoons ever made, the other 2 being Static Shock and Road
Rovers.
This show is a must see for both cartoon fans and Jackie Chan fans.

And another thing . . . WATCH THIS CARTOON!, 6 November 2001
Author:

Jackie Chan temporarily retires from the Martial Arts film world to help
his
Uncle in archaeology. He comes across twelve talismans that give the user
spectacular powers. The sinister Niles Valmont and his suave squad of foes,
Chow, Finn, Ratso, Hak Foo the Black Tiger, and Tohru want the talismans to
appease the sinister dragon demon Shan Do and his glee club, the
Shadowkhan.
Whoa.
Darn good thing he has hyperactive niece Jade on his side and back up from
Section 13's Captain Black, Mexican luchador El Toro and sexy thief
Viper.
Darn good thing for ME that this cartoon is here! All the Jackie Chan-ness
without that excess ghoulash his movies give me. Spectacular performances
from James Sie, who's the perfect Jackie, Shan Do and Chow. Is Stacy Chan
related? She's cool as Jade. And another thing. . . Sab Shimono's Uncle is
very good! Clancy Brown(as Capt. Black) plays his coolest bald guy since
Lex
Luthor. Julian Sands, Adam Baldwyn, Jim Cummings and Noah Nelson should
take
a bow for their evil performances(Noah moreso because his Tohru's on our
side, now).
You also learn everything you need to know about Jackie Chan in live
segments.
If you don't want to have a bad day bad day bad day bad day bad day, etc.,
etc., then see this cartoon! And another thing. . . It's a whole lot of
fun!

Surprisingly good in spite of the hokey concept., 2 January 2002

I'll be the first to admit that I thought this was a very bad idea when I'd first heard of it. I mean, a cartoon based on a celebrity? I laughed when I thought of Billy Baldwin Adventures. But thank the good heavens that the people behind this production know how to take a crappy concept and turn it into one of the better cartoons out there. The action is good and fast without looking ridiculous, the humor is pretty good, and the directing job is great. I also like the fact that Jacky Chan himself is not showboating. Most of the time, he actually gets his behind whupped and humiliated.

This show is very good, talented, funny. All of that! Jackie Chan is a great hero. Jade in the series is a great female hero. This cartoon shows originality, and the humor is very well written. The WB made this show look great. I think the animation is terrific!!!! Rock on Jackie!!

Although it's got plenty of action for the kids, it's also got some funny bits of humor. For example (mild spoiler), in the first episode Jackie climbs up a drain pipe but it rips off the wall and he and the pipe land on the bad guy's car. Jackie: "That will buff right out!". Another funny point is his uncle. A good show for both kids and adults.

First season good, second season iffy, 28 May 2002

I first encountered "Jackie Chan Adventures" by accident, while flipping
channels one day. It was the first episode of the show, and as soon as I
found out what it was, I laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of the
show's concept, thinking it would be pretty awful.
As the first season progressed, I soon learned how wrong I was. A hugely
witty, fast-paced, well-written show, with a great mix of action, comedy
and
a supernatural edge that all blended together to create a truly enjoyable
TV
experience. The high point of the season was surely the appearance of Hak
Foo, who, with his massive build, extravagent hair, and urge to give names
to his attack techniques, was clearly a well-aimed swipe at "Dragonball Z."
The fact he was voiced by Jim Cummings was a bonus, too.
However, for me, the second season has proved to be something of a
disappointment. For starters, it begins with a double-dose of episodes
which
are set at different points DURING the first season, which really confused
me, as it wasn't clearly stated. Then, the third episode was set in
real-time, but was just a filler episode before the main season plot
started. And there is where this season falls down.
FILLER.
The primary plot of the season is that Shendu has returned, and is seeking
to free his demon bretheren from their interdimensional prison. A very good
idea, which furthers the supernatural element of the previous season and
kicks it up a couple of notches. And yes, when a demon appears in the
series, it's a sign the episode will be a good one.
However, this season is nearly three times as long as the first one - but
there are only seven demons. Hence, for every episode with a demon, there
are roughly two or three episodes that are totally unrelated, and are
nothing more than filler material where some random myth or legend is
explored (and quite commonly bastardized). Often, the fillers are very
poorly written, as well - a HORRIBLE episode about the Chupacabra comes to
mind. It was quite possibly one of the worst things I've seen on television
of late).
I get the impression that the filler episodes would be a lot better if they
actually involved the Dark Hand, who are, to be honest, the only source of
comedy in the show that's actually FUNNY (with the exception of Uncle, but
he has not had nearly enough to do this season, other than use the phrase
"chi spell" far, FAR too much). Though for some reason, Hak Foo, who is now
a regular Dark Hang member in this season, is not nearly as funny as in
season one. Perhaps it's because he only really worked for comedy purposes
as a one-shot character, or maybe it's 'cause Cummings is no longer doing
his voice.
This season is increasingly being dragged down by the fact they may as well
rename it "Jade Chan Adventures." Jade is becoming the driving force behind
every non-demon episode, and is FAR too involved in the demon episodes for
the liking of myself or anyone else that I've discussed the show with.
She's
an annoying character, who is one of those individuals you *really* wish
you
could smack, but ya can't, 'cause it's just a cartoon. Her irritating
pre-teen "gag me with a spoon" voice and attitude are, I would guess,
supposed to make the show accessible to girls of her age, but they just
annoy the hell out of everyone else.
The second season finale has not yet aired here in Ireland at the time of
this writing, but it's coming soon, and hopefully it will make up for the
fluctuating quality of this season.

Now don't take my summary in a bad way. I like Jackie Chan a lot, I think he is very talented at what he does, and I was intrigued when I saw this. The concept was hokey to me at first, but when it came to seeing the show I was impressed with how it turned out. The story lines are somewhat original and don't feel formulaic or predictable, and the writing is funny and intelligent. Then we have the animation, the backgrounds are unique and the colours unusual but really nice, but I have to say the action/stunt sequences turned out brilliantly. And I like the characters, Jackie is a great character, he is loyal, determined and brave, and the villains are fun, especially Hak Foo(brilliantly voiced by Jim Cummings). And the voice acting is very well done, very dynamic and expressive. I do agree though the first half of the show is better than the second, the second wasn't bad, but I felt there were episodes when it focused a little too much on Jade. Don't get me wrong Jade is very cute and funny, but there needed to be more of a balance between her and Jackie, I got the sense sometimes Jackie was merely a side character on occasions during that occasion. Overall, a surprisingly enjoyable show that made the most of its concept. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Great show!, 25 February 2010

I really like this show. I have always been a fan of Jackie Chan. I saw
this when it was on TV a few times. I may have watched it each week. It
has the normal Jackie Chan humor, while at the same time adding his
action. In the cartoon him and a family member have to stop an army of
all kinds of bad things. The humor between the girl and Chan is really
funny and something I look forward to when getting ready to watch. Fans
of Jackie Chan will probably think this is a cool show.
I have waited for this to come on DVD for a long time. One day, I typed
it on i Tunes and they had it! So, I finally got to buy the show by
season. Today I got the 5th and final season. I could not be any
happier. It even has the thing at the end with Jackie Chan talking!
Great!!!!
