Parents Guide for
The Bourne Identity (2002) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Bourne and Marie kiss passionately and he removes his shirt before the camera backs out of their hotel room, leaving the audience to assume a night of passion. She is seen in her bra, though only the shoulders and a bit of her chest are visible(even so, she wakes up the next morning alone wearing a modest T-shirt and shorts).

NOTE - The entire point of the scene is to show the bullet holes in Bourne's back after he removes his shirt

Violence & Gore

Several fist fights with karate movies. A pretty violent movie overall, but nothing too bad. A character is stabbed in the hand with a pen. A woman is found dead with a bullet wound in her forehead, a bit disturbing. A man commits suicide by leaping through a glass window and off a balcony. A man is shot dead by a sniper. One guy takes a bullet in the head. Another is shot several times at close range.

Profanity

There are approximately 30 profanities or crude expressions, including 30 uses of the word "shit", 2 uses of the word "fuck" (one is not noticeable as it is said under the characters breath, its more noticeable if you have subtitles on), a few uses of "damn", "hell", and 16 exclamatory uses of the Lord's name (seven of them abusing the name of Christ Jesus).

Feeling stressed, Marie buys a flask of whiskey and takes a swig.

Some sequences are suspenseful with a element of sustained peril. The sequences of violence are quite intense.

The killing and shooting scenes could be frightening to young children.

A dead woman has a dart in her head. Marie vomits after seeing the dead woman.

An assassin stakes out a house, and the entire scene is pretty intense. The dog goes missing, and is implied that it was killed by the assassin, may upset young viewers.
