Thor: Ragnarok Director Wants to Make a Black Widow Comedy Movie

  • MovieWeb
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been going strong for nearly a decade now. Yet, somehow, we still don't have a Black Widow solo movie. Kevin Feige says the movie will happen someday, but no official plans have been nailed down. Now, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi says that he'd like the chance to direct the movie. Only, he'd do it as a comedy. Here's what he had to say about it.

"In all honesty, I reckon I could probably bring something pretty unique to any of the franchises. So, I'd love to see Black Widow. [I'd like to see] Black Widow as something crazy and a bit funnier than we expect it to be. Because we know her story and it's very sullen and very dark and her history is very dark. But! What's the funny version of that? What's the more entertaining version of that?"

There are a couple of ways to look at that.

Review: The Wall (2017)

There was a lot that put me off The Wall (2017). For one, I’m not a big fan of war films – they’re just not my cup of tea. Secondly, despite the fact that wrestlers are apparently good actors now – hello Dave Bautista – I’m biased against wrestlers actually being actors after I came to the conclusion that Dwayne Johnson was basically playing the same role in every film he was in. (Dave, if you’re reading this, this doesn’t apply to you. You are a wonderful actor). Even John Cena who, truth be told, actually played a really good part in the Amy Schumer fronted rom-com Trainwreck (2015), drew my ire – and I can’t actually remember seeing him as a wrestler! And Aaron Taylor-Johnson? He’s not a bad actor, by any means, but he’s just never done anything that really impressed me. And yet, despite all

Anthony Bourdain Slams Harvey Weinstein After Girlfriend Asia Argento Alleges He Sexually Assaulted Her

Anthony Bourdain Slams Harvey Weinstein After Girlfriend Asia Argento Alleges He Sexually Assaulted Her
Anthony Bourdain is calling out Hollywood's elite for staying silent after numerous women -- including his girlfriend, Asia Argento -- have come forward alleging that Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed and/or assaulted them.

The celebrity chef went on a Twitter rant on Tuesday, outright berating designer Donna Karan for her remarks about the Weinstein accusers and seemingly shading Matt Damon for not speaking out about the allegations against the high-powered studio mogul. This was in addition to overall slamming Weinstein's alleged indecent behavior.

Bourdain's tweets come after Argento alleged in a New Yorker piece published on Tuesday that Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her.

"@AsiaArgento, I am proud and honored to know you. You just did the hardest thing in the world," he wrote along with a link to the article.

Bourdain then followed up that message with the tweet: "Can we use the word

Trivia: Jason Bourne Almost Died at the End of ‘The Bourne Identity’
The Bourne film series may have come to outstay its welcome today, but 15 years ago, The Bourne Identity was a plucky spy thriller starring a rising dramatic actor making his first venture into the action genre. Without high expectations for the film, director Doug Liman and star Matt Damon debated giving The Bourne Identity a dramatic twist — by killing off […]

Doug Liman's directing the Ya adaptation Chaos Walking, starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland. Here's the first photo...

Now here's an intriguing project worth looking forward to. It teams Doug Liman, the director of The Bourne Identity, Edge Of Tomorrow and American Made, with a novel by Patrick Ness, who previously wrote the wonderful A Monster Calls. Chaos Walking is adapted from the Ya novel The Knife Of Never Letting Go, a sci-fi story about a world where women have almost entirely vanished and where those who are left can hear one another's thoughts.

As if the premise and director weren't inviting enough, there's also the cast: it's being headed up by Tom Holland, stepping away from his Spider-Man outfit, who plays a young chap named Todd Hewitt; he's joined by Daisy Ridley, back from a galaxy far,

Box Office Surge Ends as 3 Films Vie for Top Spot

Box Office Surge Ends as 3 Films Vie for Top Spot
New entry “American Made” (Universal) and holdovers “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” (20th Century Fox) and “It” (Warner Bros.). are basically tied at the top for weekend box office #1, with estimates placing all within $310,000. Any of the three could emerge on top when Sunday’s actual numbers are compiled after the weekend.

That’s good news for “It” in its fourth weekend (now headed even higher than the $325 million that seemed likely a couple days ago), more mixed for the opening of Tom Cruise’s latest film and the holdover for the expensive second release in the “Kingsman” franchise.

What is not good news is the sudden 20 per cent-plus drop in box office total revenues for the weekend. After three post-Labor Day stanzas where “It” propelled a strong resurgence that gave hope that the mediocre summer’s returns might improve, the current results suggest that the year will end down

Tom Cruise’s ‘American Made’ Almost Had A Scene Featuring Bill Clinton Getting A Lap Dance
An actor playing a young version of former President George W. Bush has a brief cameo appearance in American Made, the newest film from director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow), but the filmmaker’s drug smuggling period piece very nearly included an appearance from another former president. According to a new report, Bill Clinton was nearly depicted getting a lap dance […]

The Preview Reel: American Made & Flatliners

  • CinemaNerdz
Welcome to the “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide-release movies. Last weekend’s box office was lower than expected with Kingsman: The Golden Circle failing to hit $40 million, The Lego Ninjago Movie barely earning $20 million, and Friend Request recording the worst wide opening of all-time with a mere $2 million across 2,500 screens. This week, Kingsman will be doing battle with the new Tom Cruise vehicle, American Made, while the Flatliners remake will most likely be dead on arrival. But will either movie be good? Let’s find out.

American Made

What we are excited about: The last time Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman teamed up was for Edge of Tomorrow (or Live. Die. Repeat. whichever stupid title you prefer) in 2014, and while American Made is a completely different movie, we’re excited for their next collaboration. Liman is known for his fast and loose

Tom Cruise’s ‘American Made’ Battles ‘Kingsman 2,’ ‘It’ at Weekend Box Office

Tom Cruise’s ‘American Made’ Battles ‘Kingsman 2,’ ‘It’ at Weekend Box Office
Tom Cruise has arrived to cap a record September at the box office. But it won’t end with a bang.

He’s starring in this weekend’s widest launch, Universal’s “American Made,” which is expected to land in the low to mid-teens at 3,023 locations. While that’s certainly not ideal for an action feature with a major movie star attached, the film’s finances are partially bolstered by having already earned more than $60 million overseas. Still, there’s a good chance that it will be overshadowed by the recent string of R-rated releases including “It” and “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.”

Gaumont Boards J.F. Richet-Vincent Cassel Pic ‘The Emperor of Paris’

Gaumont Boards J.F. Richet-Vincent Cassel Pic ‘The Emperor of Paris’
Gaumont has come on board “The Emperor of Paris,” a crime thriller about Francois Vidocq, a real-life ex-convict who became a police detective during Napoleon’s reign. The project – which started shooting Tuesday – re-teams Jean-Francois Richet, the director of the “Mesrine” gangster films, with French star Vincent Cassel (“Black Swan”).

Cassel (pictured), who earned critical acclaim for his performance as Jacques Mesrine in Richet’s “Killer Instinct” and “Public Enemy #1,” will play Vidocq. He will star opposite Olga Kurylenko (“The Death of Stalin”), August Dhiel (“Inglourious Basterds”), Freya Mavor (“Skins”), Denis Menochet (“Custody”) and James Thierée (“Chocolat”), among others.

A French adventurer who became a gangster and then the boss of Paris police, Vidocq led a tumultuous life that has inspired authors such as Victor Hugo and Edgar Allan Poe. In “The Emperor of Paris,” set during the height of Napoleon’s reign, Vidocq lies low as a modest cloth merchant after a dazzling escape from a

The James Bond movies' special relationship with America

Mark Harrison Sep 19, 2017

Kingsman pulls the leg of the James Bond series - but how have the 007 films put across the relationship between Britain and the USA?

When Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service exploded into cinemas in 2015, it gave the iconic James Bond franchise much the same irreverent treatment that the director's previous Mark Millar adaptation, Kick-Ass, gave to comic book movies. Reviews focused on how the film recontextualised the familiar 007 tropes of guns, girls and gadgets through the lens of class, identity and that notorious final bum note.

In the sequel, Eggsy and the Kingsmen run up against a crime syndicate known as the Golden Circle with a little help from their American cousins, the Statesmen. It neatly shows us that American iconography plays much the same role for their opposite numbers, that liquor-themed codenames will stand in for Arthurian monikers, and most accurately of all, that

Nicolas Cage to do battle with wild animals in his next film

Nick Harley Sep 13, 2017

Nicolas Cage will rage as a big game hunter stuck on a ship with his prey in action film Primal.

Snakes on a plane? How about Cage on a rage….on a boat? Okay, admittedly not as catchy, but I’m sure some marketing executive is already hard at work on a memorable tagline for Nicolas Cage’s new film, Primal.

In Primal, Cage will play a big-game hunter working on behalf of a zoo. He must survive on a Greek freightliner after his haul of dangerous, exotic wild animals is set free by an escaped political assassin, aboard the ship to be extradited to the U.S. The animals, including a rare White Panther, wreak havoc, chaos ensues.

Picturing Nic Cage deliver animal-based puns while putting down attacking jungle beasts sounds like the best/worst movie ever. We couldn’t be more excited. Nick Powell, a
