I note that Richard Standeven, the director, has done quite a few TV films that I have not seen. For a TV film director, this effort of Standeven is creditable.

The plot structure is pretty simple and the outcome quite predictable. However, what makes the film watchable is the realistic development of the characters and the impressive performances. Actress Imogen Stubbs, apparently a stage actress, is able to use her voice and express emotions with great conviction. I wish she gets a good break with a good screen director. Robson Green, the male lead, has a comparatively easier role because audience sympathy rests with the afflicted. Green has done a worthy interpretation of a blind runner aiming for a paraplegic Olympic medal. Compared to actors who have played blind men, Green's role is not outstanding but believable.

The question that comes to my mind after viewing the film: Would Standeven have made a better film if the plot did not have a blind runner? How would the plot have been if it was a regular athletic competition with the same subplot of the wife and trainer coming closer in a trying time?

Standeven in this film does not rely on great camerawork or editing--he believes in a strong story and performances. Well, it worked. I did not turn off the TV!
