Ratings: Solid Return for NBC’s ‘Last Comic Standing’

23 July 2015 9:19 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” looked good as it returned for a ninth season on Wednesday, winning its timeslot and finishing behind only CBS’ “The Big Brother” among the night’s top-rated shows in young adults. Also at CBS, sophomore drama “Extant” remained sluggish but at least saw a ratings uptick in its new timeslot.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, NBC’s winning night opened with an “America’s Got Talent” clip show (1.2/5 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall), placing third in most categories behind “Big Brother” and Fox’s “MasterChef.” The Peacock then spiked from there with “Last Comic Standing” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall), which won in all key categories from 9 to 11. “Comic,” which looks likely to round up to a 1.6 in the nationals, will come in a bit below last year’s demo premiere score (1.7), but in total viewers this will be the show’s best »

Big Brother 7's Glyn Wise is best remembered for boiling an egg for the very first time - but now he's all grown up and standing for election.

The 27-year-old - who came second on Big Brother in 2009 after memorably entering the house in a lifeguard outfit - has been selected by Plaid Cymru to stand for office in Cardiff Central at next year's Welsh Assembly elections.

According to Wales Online, Wise said that he thinks the election will be "very exciting".

"People in Wales will be looking for an opportunity to move in a new direction for our country, so I'm delighted that I will be part of that campaign team in our capital city," he said.

"I look forward to using my experience in reaching out to people across all communities, many of whom have become disillusioned with politics in recent years."

Wise added: "I intend to »
