007 himself; Daniel Craig, took a break from production on the upcoming James Bond adventure Skyfall to promote his role as Swedish journalist Mikael Blomkvist in director David Fincher’s English-language adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but he made headlines sharing his excitement about reuniting with his Road to Perdition director Sam Mendes on the new Bond movie to The Guardian. “Before we started, Sam and I sat down together and rubbed our hands and said, ‘Right – what shall we do? We watched the films. We read the books again, just to find what makes a great Bond movie. And I think we’ve managed to put in all the wit we love about the series, and all the kind of…Look, I’m really very excited about it!” »

Daniel Craig: the man with the 007 tattoo

23 December 2011 4:24 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Daniel Craig is currently between Bonds, and heading up a Stieg Larsson adaptation. But, he tells Ryan Gilbey, he's itching to get back on her majesty's secret service

The surprise upon meeting Daniel Craig is his gentleness. It isn't that you expect him to be scarred and basted and bleeding, as he is throughout much of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, the two films in which he has played James Bond. (He is currently shooting a third, Skyfall, which will open next October, and is rumoured to have signed up for a further five.) But he goes beyond politeness: he's relaxed, even goofy, and quick to laugh, especially at himself. The blue eyes, which can seem glacial in his closeups as Bond, are warm and zesty. His features are as deeply etched as the grooves of a wood carving; the hair is sandy-coloured and fluffy. What else? There's the »

Camerimage honors DPs of 'In Darkness,' 'A Separation,' 'Wuthering Heights'

5 December 2011 2:44 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The Camerimage festival, to my knowledge the only international film festival dedicated specifically to honoring the art of cinematography, rarely gets much attention on the awards beat, but it's always an interesting event to follow. Based in Poland, the festival annually programs a selection of the year's most remarkably photographed films, ranging from mainstream awards fare to exotic obscurities, with an international jury judging the Dp's work in each case.  Naturally, awards follow. "The Piano" won the festival's inaugural Golden Frog award in 1993, while subsequent winners include "Elizabeth," "Road to Perdition," "City of God," "Pan's Labyrinth," "The Diving Bell and »

DC Critics Love Movies About Movies... And Dogs

5 December 2011 2:15 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

This year marked the 10th anniversary for the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association. What a mouthful their name is. Henceforth Wafca which omits the DC part but they like it that way.  In their very first year they picked an odd duck for Best Picture by way of the Stiff With Prestige Adaptation Road to Perdition but since then they've hewed much closer to Oscar, only giving two top prizes to films that weren't eventually Best Picture nominees or winners (Eternal Sunshine and United 93). This year they went crazy for movies about movies... with dogs.

DC Film Critics are Dog People. The Artist and Hugo win big.

Let me be clear... In no way does my happy photoshopping imply that President Obama is a member of Wafca though the Obamas are dog friendly. It's just me thinking 'bout DC and the movies.

Here are the Wafca prizes...

Teen Wolf Season 2 Pack Expands

Teen Wolf Season 2 Pack Expands

There are pros and cons to getting bitten by a werewolf. For Tyler Posey, the actor behind MTV’s Teen Wolf, being renewed for a fresh second season was definitely a pro. One of the cons however, is a new actor headed to the Atlanta set to bring to life a troublesome werewolf hunter. Get ready to run, Scott.

Teen Wolf centers on Scott McCall, resident of Beacon Hills. And the Beacon Hills population just got bigger and more dangerous for our wolf. TV Guide‘s latest buzz has it that the “sexy” series has added four exciting new characters. Battlestar Galactica actor Michael Hogan, will portray that hunter I warned you about. He is Allison’s grandfather, he’s good at what he does, and he wants to recruit Allison and teach her the hunt.

Also coming along is Private Practice‘s Stephen Lunsford. »

DC Comics February 2012 Solicitations

14 November 2011 2:00 PM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this February. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.9 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant stack of returned copies of Holy Terror since noon today.

What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.

Shall we? Surely!

As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Colin Firth To Make Josh Brolin’s Life Hell In Oldboy Remake?

12 November 2011 2:17 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Director Spike Lee had wanted Christian Bale to play the tortured villain part in his English-language remake of Chan-wook Park’s Korean epic Oldboy but with The Dark Knight Rises actor seemingly reluctant, Lee is turning attention elsewhere.

Twitch, the source of all information concerning this remake, say Lee has made an official offer to Colin Firth to play Adrian, one of the last decade’s most disturbed villains. He is the guy who imprisons our lead Joe (Dae-su Oh in the Korean original but Josh Brolin in the new remake) for 15 years before setting him free onto the world, but giving him only four days to work out the reason for his imprisonment, or else his daughter will be killed. This leads to one of recent cinema’s most memorable climaxes where Firth & Brolin would square off and as much as I hate the idea of remaking such a perfect film, »

Simon and Kirby Library - Crime! book review

7 November 2011 2:33 PM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Listen up, palookas! I got a tale of tough men who lived by the gun, and weren’t afraid to use them, and of the fast dames who loved those law-breaking goons. There’s coppers and G-Men, always on the trails of those ne’er-do-wells. We have bank robberies, jewel heists, crooked fight promoters, gambling, and lots of shootouts. These are the real-life stories that were written and drawn for the entertainment of comic book readers years ago by two of the highest regarded pioneers in the field, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. While they are best known for their work in superhero titles, they put pen to paper on a number of different genres, including the crime comics.

While Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney were portraying gangsters and crime fighting detectives on the big screen, Simon and Kirby were revolutionizing comics with stories based on true crime stories from the files of the police, »

Skyfall Begins Filming First Scene In Grotty Toilet

7 November 2011 5:13 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Despite the cast revealing at the press conference on Thursday that filming was set to begin in Whitehall later that day, the official U.S. twitter feed for the next James Bond claims production actually began on Skyfall at 8.45Am UK time this morning.

They even have the above picture to prove it, indicating that Scene 45 takes place in a grotty toilet which of course reminds one of the moment in Casino Royale when we see Bond getting ruthless on some guy in a bathroom.

The official tweet reads;

8.45am, 07/11/11: ‘Action!’ was called for the first time on the 23rd James Bond movie, Skyfall. We are officially go!

How very exciting and did anyone else geek out when they read the names Dir: Sam Mendes and Cam: Roger Deakins? Holy crap, this is going to be awesome.

You can read our thoughts from the Skyfall press conference last week Here. »
