Random Roles: Richard Riehle on his long career and short mustache, including the few times he shaved it off

Welcome to Random Roles, wherein we talk to actors about the characters who defined their careers. The catch: They don’t know beforehand what roles we’ll ask them to talk about.

The actor: Since the late ’80s—actually, let’s just say 1989, since that’s when Glory came out—if a casting director has found themselves in need of a burly, blustery, mustachioed man for their project, Richard Riehle has likely been near the top of their list. He’s been in over 200 films and on more than 125 TV series, including Casino, Executive Decision, The Fugitive, Grounded For Life, and Office Space. In addition to popping up all over the primetime lineup—among the currently airing shows he’s guested on are NCIS, The Middle, The Real O’Neals, Major Crimes, Mom, Drunk History, Modern Family, and The Mindy Project—Riehle can also been seen in ...

Jessica Simpson's Latest Instagram Photo Poses So Many Questions
Jessica Simpson is in love, and she doesn't care who knows it. The singer celebrated an anniversary with her husband, Eric Johnson, on Thursday by posting a sexy photo on Instagram. And while it's just the latest in her usual steamy social media snaps, it was what she said that really caught our attention. In the black-and-white photo, captioned, "The sexiest day of my life was 5yrs ago when Johnson came into my home #MAY21," Jessica cozies up to her man in a restaurant booth. It's unclear exactly what significance May 21 has to the couple, but Jessica's caption implies a number of things. Is it a metaphor for the first time they met? Did Eric just walk up to her house and go inside? Was it the first time they kissed? Was it their first date? There are so many unanswered questions! While we may never know what Jessica meant,

Adult Swim’s 'Black Dynamite' is the latest to bash Bill Cosby
Adult Swim’s “Black Dynamite” is the latest to bash Bill Cosby The latest shot at Cosby, revolving around a “Cosby Coon Renewal Program,” has nothing to do with the rape allegations. In Friday’s episode, titled “Sweet Bill’s Badass Song or Cos Ain’t Himself,” Cosby is portrayed as a villain who kidnaps all the “blackity-black” actors in an effort to get them to “stop cooning in Black Hollywood.” The timely episode has been in the works for a year. Discovery's “Eaten Alive” could kill an anaconda Dr. Jesús A. Rivas, who specializes in the green anaconda that the Discovery special is using explains: "When they swallow a prey, because they don't have the respiratory system that we do, they can either swallow or breathe. They can't do both. So during the time the prey goes through what would be the throat, they have to do that in apnea.

Donal Logue Talks Gotham, the Rumors He Was Going to Play Jim Gordon, What Drew Him to the Role, the Possibility of a Terriers Reunion, and More

Last week at New York Comic-Con, I was able to participate in a roundtable interview with Donal Logue for Gotham. At the center of the show is Ben McKenzie as a young Detective Jim Gordon, who comes onto the force to work with veteran Harvey Bullock, played by Donal Logue. The main antagonists that emerge are Jada Pinkett Smith as an original character, Fish Mooney, and Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepott, the man who becomes the Penguin. Balancing out the cast are Erin Richards as Gordon’s mysterious fiancée Barbara Kean, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth. While all shows take a bit of time to find a rhythm that works, Gotham is loaded with a talented cast and has The Mentalist and Rome alum Bruno Heller as the executive producer/writer, so I’m rooting for it. During the interview,

Donal Logue Lands Role On Law & Order: Svu, Show Instantly 5000% Cooler

You know, at the very beginning I was a fan of Law & Order: Svu. It probably goes without saying that I’m not inclined to be a fan of anything after 40 or 50 seasons (or whatever this show is on), but beyond the general boredom of a show that has outlived its usefulness, Svu started going downhill after two seasons, and simply wasn’t the same show anymore.

Well, whatever, such is my humble anyway.

As if to specifically mess with me, the show is now forcing me to watch it again, as Donal Logue has been given a recurring role. Fresh off of three of the coolest shows, and roles, you’re going to run into (Copper, Vikings, and Sons of Anarchy), Logue will continue the role as acting commander of the Svu.

The show returns on the 30th, and the Grey’s Anatomy-esque fun continues as Mariska Hargitay‘s character…
