What We Do For Family
27 June 2016 | by (New York City) – See all my reviews

While Kate Bruce lies dying, her son, police officer Lionel Barrymore, is sent to deal with a robbery at Blanche Sweet's house. He discovers the thief is his brother, Harry Carey.

Although D.W. Griffith may have supervised this movie, by this time he had a couple of directors working under him; Frank Powell got comedies (replacing Mack Sennett, who had left the previous year to form Keystone; and Anthony O'Sullivan for many of the dramas. Although O'Sullivan would never be as interesting and innovative a director as Griffith, by this point, he did not have to be. With cameramen and a cast like this one, even a lesser talent could do a lot.

It would not last. When Griffith left Biograph for his own company within the year, Biograph would eventually flounder and go under.
