A 90%/scale reproduction of the Auschwitz/Birkenau death camp was constructed near Sofia, Bulgaria, for the shooting of this film. The actual plans for the original Auschwitz camp were used to build the set.
Jeff Danna who is the credited composer did not score the movie. There is no score in the actual film but he did write music for the title and end credit sequences. He also arranged a classical piece used as source music.
It was reported that Natasha Lyonne, who plays Rosa, contracted Hepititis C while shooting the movie in Bulgaria. She later was reported to be in hospital suffering from Hepititis C, a collapsed lung and a heart infection.
