Ted DiBiase was originally scheduled to win the WWF Championship Tournament. But when the Honky Tonk Man refused to lose his Intercontinental Championship to Randy Savage, Vince McMahon decided to appease the Macho Man by having Savage win the WWF Title. The Million Dollar Championship was created for Ted as a direct result of this.
