Goldsmith-Thomas, MGM pact

20 June 2007 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

MGM has inked an overall production pact with former Revolution Studios partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and her Goldsmith-Thomas Prods.

During her seven years at Revolution, Goldsmith-Thomas produced such female-driven films as Mona Lisa Smile and Maid in Manhattan.

It marks one of the first production deals inked by the revamped studio. MGM also has a producing pact with Robert Simonds, among others that carried over from the studio's former regime.

"It's a statement to the industry that MGM will be making movies, not just distributing them," said Goldsmith-Thomas, who is negotiating to bring about a half-dozen projects from Revolution with her.

While at Revolution, Goldsmith-Thomas developed and produced a slate of films that included the Brittany Murphy starrer Little Black Book, the Halle Berry topliner Perfect Stranger and several telefilms based on the American Girl dolls.

"The key for me is that they opened up their library to us (for potential remakes)," she said. "When you don't have to get the rights, then you are one step closer to making that movie a reality."

Additionally, Ian Mohr and Jared Mass will join Marisa Yeres as vps development at the shingle. »

Singer/actress Jennifer Lopez has denied reports she has been the target of death threats because of her penchant for wearing fur. The Maid In Manhattan star was said to have been sent a letter warning she'd be killed "in public, just like the slaughtered animals whose fur" she wears. Her husband Marc Anthony was also reported to have hired two off-duty police officers to protect J.Lo. However, a representative for Lopez has dismissed the story as untrue. »

Fiennes Flight Attendant "Admits Toilet Tryst"

19 February 2007 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Friends of the flight attendant at the centre of Ralph Fiennes' airborne sex scandal insist she did have sex with the actor in the aircraft toilet. The British actor caused controversy late last month on a long-haul journey from Australia to India when he reportedly "became amorous" with 38-year-old Qantas stewardess Lisa Robertson, who has been suspended from the company while an investigation takes place. Robertson revealed to friends she had been the one to initiate sexual intercourse - contradicting her official statement of events to employer Quantas - leading Fiennes to the toilet after they enjoyed an intimate conversation. She says, "I've always fancied him and to see him on my flight was a real thrill. I reached down for his hand and told him to follow me. We went into the toilet and locked the door and off came much of our clothes." In a statement to her bosses, Robertson claimed the Maid In Manhattan actor followed her into the lavatory where she rejected his advances before eventually convincing him to leave. »

Three pilots using 'Sex' guide

9 January 2007 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

ABC and NBC have picked up three one-hour pilots that all bear some of the DNA of HBO's Sex and the City.

ABC has ordered "Cashmere Mafia," from "Sex" creator-executive producer Darren Star and Working Girl writer Kevin Wade, which is described as "the next generation of 'Sex and the City.' "

ABC has also picked up Women's Murder Club, to be directed by Brett Ratner, which revolves around a quartet of crime-solving women and has a logline of " 'CSI' meets 'Sex and the City'."

And NBC has given the green light to Lipstick Jungle, a dramedy based on "Sex" author Candace Bushnell's follow-up to her smashing bestseller.

Additionally, NBC has ordered a female-centered one-hour pilot from House creator-executive producer David Shore and House writer Peter Blake.

Cashmere Mafia, from Darren Star Prods. and Sony Pictures TV, follows four successful female executives, friends since college, who rely on each other as they juggle the demands of career, family, hard choices and high ambitions in New York City.

Wade, whose credits also include Maid in Manhattan and Meet Joe Black, penned the script and is executive producing with Star and Gail Katz. »
