Calm Affleck "Drove J.Lo Crazy"

24 August 2004 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood heart-throb Ben Affleck lost Jennifer Lopez because he refused to fight with her, according to sources. A pal close to the Maid In Manhattan beauty says Affleck often bore the brunt of his former fiancee's fiery temperament but wouldn't engage in heated rows to clear the air. Instead Ben, who went through rehab for alcohol addiction, tried to analyse why his stunning lover was angry - and got her even madder. The pal tells Britain's Sunday magazine, "You can't have a relationship without some fights. Ben's mom is a schoolteacher and his dad is a counselor for recovering addicts. When he would try and analyze her, it made her crazy." And the pal denies recent reports that J.Lo's mum Guadalupe prefers Affleck to her current husband Marc Anthony, saying, "Jen's family breathed a sigh of relief when they called off the wedding. It would have been doomed." »

Five, SPTI renew movie package

13 August 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

LONDON -- The Five channel said Thursday that it has extended its ongoing movie package deal with Sony Pictures Television International, adding a slew of popular movies, some of which will air on the network without having a U.K. pay window. Five has secured pay and free rights to Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Tears of the Sun, with Bruce Willis, and the Charlize Theron starrer Trapped. Five said it expects some of the titles to air as early as November, 15 months after their theatrical debut. These titles will not exploit a U.K. pay window, but instead go straight to terrestrial. The extended deal also covers such terrestrial premieres as Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Anger Management, Bad Boys II, Maid in Manhattan and Daddy Day Care. These titles are set for a pay TV outing. The deal was negotiated by Five head of acquisitions Jeff Ford, who hailed the deal as a first for terrestrial TV. "This is a huge coup for the channel," Ford said. "It means Five will continue to be the leading terrestrial channel for blockbuster premieres." »

Affleck "Stunned" by J.Lo Wedding

18 June 2004 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood hunk Ben Affleck was horrified when he discovered former fiancee Jennifer Lopez had married her latest lover just five months after they split, according to friends. The Jersey Girl stud - who dated the Maid In Manhattan star for 18 months - has so far made little public comment about J.Lo's shock marriage to fellow singer Marc Anthony. But close friends say the Gigli heart-throb was devastated by the news of Lopez's third marriage, believing it came too soon after their passionate relationship floundered. A source tells American magazine In Touch Weekly, "At first, Ben was shocked, sort of bowled over, like he'd been run over by a truck. He couldn't believe it - only five months after the split. It's like pouring salt in the wound." »

'Jersey Girl' Premiere Ends in Disaster

4 June 2004 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The British premiere of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's second film together ended in disaster on Wednesday night - when none of the 'A' list cast bothered to turn up. Jersey Girl - in which J.Lo has a small cameo - was premiered in London's West End Curzon cinema, and only director Kevin Smith and his young star Raquel Castro were in attendance. Organizers scrambled to conceal the embarrassing absence of leading man Ben Affleck, who is reportedly laid low with a bout of bronchitis. His love interest Liv Tyler also dropped out after contracting a sore throat, meanwhile Lopez - who split with Affleck in January - had already refused to appear alongside her former fiance. Since it was released in America, Jersey Girl has failed to captivate the critics and director Smith - who has a huge cult following thanks to his previous comedies - admitted he was disappointed with the film's box office performance. Jersey Girl tells the story of widower Ollie Trinke (Affleck), who is forced to face up to fatherhood and a massive lifestyle change following the death of his wife Gertie, played by Lopez. Affleck and his Maid In Manhattan ex previously starred together in box office mega-flop Gigli. »

Serial monogamist Jennifer Lopez has reportedly got engaged to new love Marc Anthony - only three months after splitting from ex-fiance Ben Affleck. Affleck and J.Lo called time on their 18 month relationship in late January, only for the singer and actress to start dating Latin pop star Marc Anthony, an ex-flame, weeks later. According to American tabloid New York Post, the Maid In Manhattan star has given Affleck back her pink diamond engagement ring and is flashing a new jewel from Anthony. A friend says, "She is wearing a huge diamond ring on the middle finger of her left hand. It is a diamond band with a huge square clear diamond in the middle and the square diamond is surrounded by more tiny diamonds. It is an engagement ring." J.Lo's spokesperson says, "I don't know about that ring." »

Wang eyeing 'Holiday' stay for Par redo

28 April 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Paramount Pictures has entered into early negotiations with Wayne Wang to direct its remake of Last Holiday, which is set to star Queen Latifah. Wang, whose credits include Maid in Manhattan, The Joy Luck Club and Anywhere but Here, attracted the studio's interest because of his success at guiding actresses and his ability to bridge comedy and drama. The remake gives the plot of the 1950 British original a distaff spin. The first film starred Alec Guinness as an average man who, learning that he doesn't have long to live, cashes in everything he has to spend his dying days in a swanky resort where he is mistaken for a super-rich eccentric. The remake will feature Latifah in the lead role. Laurence Mark and Imagemovers partner Jack Rapke are producing and preparing for a fall shoot date. Peter Seaman and Jeffrey Price are writing. Wang's other upcoming projects include Good Cook, Likes Music and Because of Winn-Dixie. The director is repped by ICM. »
