Lopez and Affleck Split Reports Intensify

16 September 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Jennifer Lopez enjoyed a night clubbing in Miami, Florida, yesterday without her engagement ring - heightening reports her union with actor Ben Affleck is over. Meanwhile, Daredevil star Affleck was photographed holding hands with the same mystery brunette he was spotted with on Sunday - the day of his canceled marriage to Lopez. But friends of the Hollywood hunk insist the brunette - who accompanied him on a night out in Las Vegas on the day of his axed nuptials in Santa Barbara, California - is in fact his personal assistant Chay Carter, and pals add their relationship is based purely on friendship. With the brunette in tow yesterday, Affleck joked with photographers outside a Los Angeles eaterie, "What's going on? Who's here?" But while the actor refused to discuss J.Lo, the Maid In Manhattan beauty reportedly confided to her clubbing pals, "You're going to see a lot more of me." According to Britain's The Sun tabloid, Lopez partied at the glitzy Crobar establishment until 2:45 in the morning, with one stunned onlooker adding, "She had a really good time." »

J.Lo Dismisses Ben's Strip Club Outrage

9 September 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Superstar Jennifer Lopez has hit out at "crazy" stories about her fiance Ben Affleck's trip to a strip club - and insists she was aware he was planning to visit the saucy establishment. The Changing Lanes actor went to Brandi's lap dancing club in Vancouver, Canada in July - leading to a press frenzy reporting the singer had canceled their wedding and split with the movie hunk. American gossip magazine the National Enquirer also claimed the actor used his fingers and tongue to make physical contact with an exotic dancer. But J.Lo stands by her man, insisting she knew Ben was going to the saucy establishment, and trusts he was on his best behavior. She says, "For me, it wasn't an issue. We talk every day. I know what he does. He knows what I do. We don't have those kind of secrets. It was ridiculous, because I knew he had gone. We just sat and read the articles together and said, 'This is just insane.'" And the Maid In Manhattan actress looks forward to simple domestic tasks after the couple marry on Sunday. J.Lo adds, "That doesn't mean I'm not a strong, independent woman. But I think when you're in a relationship you have to submit to a certain extent." »

Hollywood superstar Jennifer Lopez is rumored to want to wed her actor boyfriend Ben Affleck in London. The star of Maid In Manhattan has reportedly set her sights on St. Paul's Cathedral - the same place used for the late Princess Diana's 1981 marriage to Prince Charles - when she ties the knot with Daredevil fiance Affleck. According to British magazine New!, J.Lo told friends, "I fell in love with this church after watching the Princess Diana wedding in the early '80s." An inside source reveals, "Jennifer feels that, at third time lucky, she could do with some help, and feels that the UK - where she is always warmly received - would make a great start for her wedding to Ben. She knows people will laugh, but she has this dream of a fairy-tale wedding and sees St. Paul's as the perfect setting." »

J.Lo Schedule KO's Wedding Plans

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have reportedly halted their wedding plans yet again - this time because J.Lo's schedule doesn't allow room for the nuptials. The Maid In Manhattan stunner is too busy filming with Richard Gere on Shall We Dance? to make room for her own big day. A pal confides to Pagesix.Com, "Everyone thought she would get married this summer. But then her (work) schedule kept filling up, so it's not happening - yet." J.Lo Has Another Diva Fit

17 April 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Latina stunner Jennifer Lopez met her match recently after bursting into another diva tantrum - the valet parker she was angry with wouldn't relent in let his request for a tip. The Maid In Manhattan star's latest show of temper erupted when she encountered the attendant outside trendy Hollywood eaterie The Ivy, according to Britain's Daily Star newspaper. Apparently, the future wife of A-list hunk Ben Affleck reacted badly to the worker when he asked for a $5 tip. The parker says, "J.Lo moaned that she had no change, before asking if I knew who I was talking to. Then she told me that I had driven her car and that I should think myself lucky. J.Lo didn't want to cough up a penny, but I brown-nosed her a little. I told her I polished her motor, just because I was so proud to have driven it." And his tactic paid off - Lopez reached into her glove compartment and handed the man a $10 tip. »

Affleck Accused of Affair with Garner

15 April 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood star Ben Affleck has been blamed for Jennifer Garner's sudden split from her husband Scott Foley. Sources tell American tabloid the Globe that Garner and Affleck - who's engaged to Jennifer Lopez - were very cozy on the Los Angeles set of their blockbuster movie Daredevil. A set source says, "Everyone was stunned to see how they acted around each other - especially since she was married and Ben was with J.Lo." At the time, Lopez was 3,000 miles away on America's East Coast filming Maid In Manhattan, while Affleck and sexy Garner seemed to be growing closer, eyewitnesses tell the publication. The source notes, "If Ben was there, she'd show up on the set even when she wasn't due to work. That's very unusual for actors if they're not shooting, they don't like to go to the set. Jennifer would stay close to Ben, watching him film his scenes. She'd hang around for hours. Then they'd walk off together between shooting toward his trailer." And although Garner - who has also been linked to her Alias costar Michael Vartan - dismisses the claims as "pure fantasy", a pal of the beauty tells the Globe, "I'm convinced that Jennifer and Ben had an affair on the set of Daredevil - and Scott believes too." »

O'seas b.o. slows down; war, virus, spring take toll

1 April 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

The overall overseas boxoffice slowed down considerably over the past weekend as a combination of factors kept audiences out of theaters, among them the TV coverage of the war in Iraq, the uncommon strain of pneumonia that has hit Asia, the lack of potent new product and the usual early-spring lull that sets in before the major studios unleash their summer blockbusters. In Hong Kong alone, the virus scare is reported to have depleted attendance by as much as 50%. Nevertheless, there were a number of standouts in the erratic market. Chicago benefited from last week's Oscar accolades; Daredevil, The Recruit and Maid in Manhattan gave off some sparks, and locally made films released by U.S. major studios held sway in France, Spain, Australia and Taiwan. »

'Daredevil,' 'Catch' lead way as holdovers prove strong

25 March 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

A normal early spring lull, coupled with TV coverage of the war in Iraq and the lack of blockbuster entries, saw the European boxoffice fall off an estimated 10%-15% over the weekend. But, overall, global business was on the plus side for such films as Daredevil and Catch Me If You Can and holdover powerhouses lifted their cumes to new heights. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets became the third film in industry history to surpass $600 million at the overseas boxoffice, reaching $604 million to take its place behind Titanic and Warner Bros. own Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Based on weekend activity, the war in Iraq does not seem to have hurt the boxoffice so far in a number of smaller Arab countries. In such markets as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Oman, Maid in Manhattan beat comparable romantic comedies as America's Sweethearts and The Princess Dairies, said a Columbia TriStar executive. »

'Maid' cleans up $8.4 mil during low-key weekend

18 March 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

There was a lull at the overseas boxoffice over the weekend, although no one could pinpoint a specific reason. The lack of significant new openings, a seasonal return to routine filmgoing or perhaps worldwide protests against war may have deflated attendance somewhat, but it wasn't all downbeat as the available business was spread around, with different genres making territory-specific impacts. The romantic comedy Maid in Manhattan perhaps set an escapist mode, leading the pack with a weekend haul of $8.4 million from 2,800 screens in 22 countries. The Jennifer Lopez-Ralph Fiennes starrer tidied up with top-of-the-market openings in France ($1.8 million from 471 screens ), Indonesia, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Lebanon and strong second-week No. 1 holds in the United Kingdom, Australia and Mexico. In Germany, with a two-weekend total of $5.1 million from 854 screens, it was second to the local-language marvel Good Bye, Lenin! which ranked No. 1 for the fifth straight week and has accumulated $22.5 million to date from 587 prints. »

'Maid' sweeps up; 'Gangs' closes in on $100 mil mark

11 March 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Activity at the overseas boxoffice tapered off a bit over the weekend, but it did not stop Maid in Manhattan from cleaning up in 12 new openings, nine of which welcomed the Jennifer Lopez-Ralph Fiennes romantic comedy in first place. The Columbia TriStar release led the market with a weekend take of $11.4 million from 2,252 screens in 15 countries. In the United Kingdom, Maid dusted off $3.9 million (including previews) from 446 screens, substantially beating the bows of such genre predecessors as Miss Congeniality, Legally Blonde and America's Sweethearts. In Germany, the Lopez starrer outclassed several previous well-received romantic comedies, but had to settle for second place ($2.8 million from 852) after the local-language Goodbye, Lenin!, which remained glued to first place for the fourth consecutive weekend with $3.7 million from 570 and a market total to date of $18.4 million. But Maid was in command in Australia ($1.8 million from 308), Mexico ($958,000 from 300), Switzerland ($340,000 from 48) and the Philippines ($443,000 from 58), where it was hailed as the best all-time opening for a romantic comedy. »

J.Lo's Lavish Demands at London Hotel

27 February 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

She may play a humble maid in her latest movie, but Jennifer Lopez has laid down a list of diva-like demands with a London hotel - including demanding she's not placed in the room once used by her old flame Sean 'P Diddy' Combs. The curvaceous star is in the English capital to promote her latest flick Maid In Manhattan, which had its premiere in Leicester Square last night. And the sexy Latina is said to have flown into a rage upon hearing she had been checked into the same room at The Metropolitan her ex-boyfriend Puffy once used - instead insisting she was placed as far away from that suite as possible. A hotel staff member told British paper The Daily Mirror, "The whole thing was a farce. We had to lug all of her stuff from one room to another - it took forever. She was saying that she wouldn't be able to sleep in that room and that she didn't like the view. But no one had the guts to tell her to grow up and stop being so silly. Everyone was just bending over backwards to keep her happy." J.Lo's lengthy list of pre-requisites for staff at the swanky London hotel has also been revealed - where she has rented the entire top floor at a cost of $13,500 a night. The singer arrived with 60 suitcases, and has ordered that hotel staff should not talk to her - leaving any food outside her room, which is lavishly decorated with white lilies, white linen and white curtains. Other orders stipulate that only Cristal champagne can be served to Lopez and her staff - costing $390 a bottle - and that sushi and chocolate cake must be available at all times. A source close to the star tells The Sun, "She doesn't really talk to many of her staff but she sets out her demands very particularly. She's not a bad boss because she leaves us to do her work. As long as everything goes smoothly, then she's happy - but if it goes wrong she can be prickly." »
