Vikram is a honest police inspector on the trail of Chimanbhai, little knowing that people behind the crimes are none other than politicians who will do anything to protect the criminals.

Baarana De, I want my 75 Paisa back
14 March 2011 | by (Hong Kong) – See all my reviews

Insaaf: The Justice is one of those typical and horribly handled films which was an Akshay Kumar starer. Year 1997 was the start of a bad phase for Akki as all 7 films from this year flopped. This string continued with flops and delayed disasters until 1999 hit film Jaanwar. Sangharsh was a good film but it turned out to be another critically acclaimed flop. During 1997, Akki had no hit in his hand, he had 7 releases and sadly most of them were craps. Barring a few films like Dhava and Mr and Mrs Khiladi from 1997, all his others films were bad. Insaaf is another cop film of Akki's from 1997, here too he plays the typical cop like he did in the average Davaa and the horrible flop Taarazu.

The movie Insaaf is nothing but the average Bollywood flick where there is a revenge story. The first half shows nothing but lots of boring comedy with a few funny scenes. However, there is nothing memorable or special in these scenes. The main point of interest comes when those children are murdered and Akki is on the case. However, the handling is terrible. The film flows poorly because of abrupt scenes which means that the film has been poorly edited. The pattern is the same and the handling is not up to mark. There are political goons, clashes between two rivals Gundas, corrupt cops chasing the hero after he escapes prison. Then, there is a typical climax where all the villains die after a long fight.

Direction by Dayal Nihalaani is horrible, he hasn't done anything worth looking at. This is probably one of his worst movies but I don't think he knows how to make even an average Masala flick. Akshay Kumar with long hair playing the typical cop does an average job. Him doing comedy in the first half was a bit disappointing but he improves by showing his action and acting mainly in the second half. Shilpa Shetty is just used as a romantic prop for some songs and mainly comedy in the first half of the film. Her getting kidnapped in the second half is shown poorly though. Paresh Rawal does good as the villain but he has done better as the villain in the violent Sunil Shetty action flick from 1993 Anth. Songs are bad, although the Baara Na De song is funny and hilarious, it even has a good tune.

On the whole, Insaaf only reminds people of Akki's bad period when he was only failing to deliver good films. This period was his worst but this film was not his worst from 1997. Lahoo Ke Do Rang gives tough competition to this movie and boy that film was just terrible. But Overall, Insaaf is a fail and it may not be a complete piece of crap but its still crap.

I bet people left the theaters saying "I spent 75 Paisa on this crass film"
