Fifty Shades Producer And Thor Writer Developing Remake Of Blue Thunder

17 March 2015 2:37 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Per THR, Sony’s in-house production company Escape Artists will produce a modern day revamp of 1983 thriller Blue Thunder.

The talent assembled for the remake hail from genres that are at times in complete opposition. Fifty Shades Of Grey‘s Dana Brunetti is producing under his Trigger Street Productions tag, and Craig Kyle – a Marvel Studios executive who is currently penning Thor: Ragnarok – is scripting. His work will be based on the original screenplay by Dan O’Bannon (Alien) and Don Jakoby (Evolution). At the moment, there’s no further information on who might be at the helm, but if development continues, we might see a shortlist of contenders in the near future.

The original movie, directed by John Badham and starring Roy Scheider and Daniel Stern, focused on the pilot of a military-style combat helicopter designed to mute crowd aggression during the 1984 Olympic Games. It’s believed that this »

The new Ghostbusters, internet comments & ruined childhoods

1 February 2015 9:55 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Can a new film really ruin a childhood? A look at the controversy - and comments - surrounding Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot...

You don't need me to tell you that last week's reveal of the new cast for the Ghostbusters reboot caused 'some conversation'. Our unscientific reading of said reaction is that most people are against Paul Feig's 2016 movie, many vehemently so. Furthermore, the casting of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as the lead quartet caused further consternation.

It would be fair to say that some news stories have been better received.

There are, without doubt, legitimate criticisms and concerns here. Notwithstanding the fact that not a frame of footage has been shot, and that very, very few people have read Katie Dippold's and Paul Feig's screenplay, there nonetheless can't help but be fan concerns.

The bulk of them centre around the »

Ivan Reitman interview: Draft Day, Baywatch, Evolution

31 January 2015 9:56 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Ivan Reitman talks Kevin Costner, sports movies and Baywatch, but not Ghostbusters...

You probably don't need us to tell you that Superbowl weekend has just been and gone in the Us. But maybe you might have missed Ivan Reitman's smart comedy-drama Draft Day. Following Kevin Costner as Sonny, it's a movie that's got a surface of sport, but isn't really about it at all.

We had the chance to speak to its director, Ivan Reitman, about working with Kevin Costner, sports movies, marketing, modern audiences, Six Days Seven Nights, and Evolution...

I'm from the UK, know next to nothing about American Football, and got to the end understanding all the things I needed to understand.

That's part of the magic trick of this movie. It's a bit like that wonderful movie Margin Call. You don't really know trading and all of that stuff, but you can still get very »

‘Draft Day’ DVD Review

Stars: Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary, Sean Combs, Frank Langella, Sam Elliot, Rosanna Arquette, Terry Crews, Tom Welling, Ellen Burstyn | Written by Scott Rothman, Rajiv Joseph | Directed by Ivan Reitman

Ok, so it’s fair to say I’m not a sports guy. I hated playing sports in high school, I don’t watch sports on TV (well apart from the odd Superbowl on Channel 4 back when I was a teenager) and I certainly would never choose to watch sports over a movie. But what about sports movies? I’m a sucker for them! Of course it helped that I had a parent who loved the feel-good underdog stories that many a sports flick was essentially built around. Thanks to my mum I grew up watching sports movies such as Major League, Lucas, Field of Dreams, Hoosiers, The Mighty Ducks and many more…

But in recent years it »

Julianne Moore's Top 5 Roles

21 January 2015 7:00 AM, PST | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

2015 could be Julianne Moore’s year.  The actress received her 5th Oscar nomination for her moving portrayal of a middle-aged woman reeling from a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in Still Alice, out in select theatres this week.

The role is just the latest is Moore’s crown of vivid and complex characters.  As an actress who has appeared in nearly every genre – from horror (Carrie) and comedy (Evolution) to action (Jurassic Park: The Lost World) and drama (The Hours) – Moore excels at nearly everything she does, lending prestige and credibility to the films she picks.

And she continues to pick incredibly varied parts.  Last year we saw Moore on-screens as District 13 president Alma Coin in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, as a passenger on the flight from hell in Non-Stop, and in her Cannes awards-winning role as an actress desperately clinging to the spotlight in Maps to the Stars. »
