First off, bear in mind that this is a children's movie

or at least I hope so, because it definitely wasn't made for adults.

In fact, the only reason I watched it (other than it was free) was because it had such a large number of "1" ratings. Apparently, I have this tragic flaw that compels me to watch bad horror or sci-fi movies - but it's partly that I think they are some of the best comedies to come out of Hollywood (or in this case, Romania).

Overall, I found the story interesting, if improbable (highly, highly, highly improbable), but the production value was pretty good, and I actually enjoyed the background music (often a very country-bluesy feel).

The acting was . . .

Well, another reviewer said it better than I can when he pointed out that Carly Pope (before she was on the TV show "Popular") looked like Meryl Streep doing a school play with sixth graders. The saddest part of the acting was the major role of "Tom Johnson" played by Taylor Locke. He had by far and away the best part - that of the smart-alecky younger brother, but his comedic timing was just "off". The role needed someone who could play it like "Bart Simpson" or "Danny Partridge".

As a sci-fi/adult film, this one is reaaallllyyy bad. Sadly, it's not bad enough to be MST3K-worthy, so I can't recommend it as a "bad" movie (I know that sounds odd). For adults, it's a "2" at best.

But as a children's film, I think it would be O.K., which is why I gave it a "5". It's like a cross between "E.T." and "The Apple-Dumpling Gang", but without the adult appeal of "E.T.". There is no profanity, the only violence is a few, short, bloodless fistfights, and I doubt children would notice that the acting is sub-par.
