Did You Know?

The WWE has always listed the attendance for this show as 93,173, thereby making it the indoor attendance record for any sporting event in United States history. This figure is inflated, as the actual attendance for the show is somewhere around 78,000 (still a very high figure, and still the attendance record for the Pontiac Silverdome, host of this show). People who work for the Silverdome and worked at the show that day can confirm this, stating that the building literally can't house any more people than about 78,000, thus making the figure that the WWE has stated impossible. Two Main Events!
18 January 2001 | by (Gettysburg, PA) – See all my reviews

The main event, possibly the largest in WWF history, featured Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan in a match for the WWF Heavyweight title, that was semi-decent of a match, in my opinion. But, the show stealer had to be the classic that Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and "Macho Man" Randy Savage put on, with the WWF Intercontinental title on the line. It was a classic battle, with both men showing true resilience, giving it their all in an epic battle, that, in my mind, was better than the main event itself. Ricky Steamboat ended up winning the match, and the WWF Intercontinental Title. That match alone is worth watching Wrestlemania III.
