On the screen, Vincent Price was magical, sublime, and very nearly without equal. He is absolutely one of the greatest actors who ever lived. In real life, he was a kind, quiet gentleman who was something of a food conisseur (something many people may not know about him). He wrote a well received cookbook, that my grandmother counts among her very favorite.
The movies that Mr. Price appeared in were always made worlds better simply by his being there, even when they would have been good without him. Titles like Edward Scissorhands come to mind: it still would have been a great movie, but can you imagine anyone other than Price as the kindly old inventor?
His passing was a major loss to us all.
