Lane to do shrink rap for 'Need'

19 September 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Academy Award-nominated actress Diane Lane has come aboard to star in Sony-based Escape Artists' Need. No director is on board, but production is slated to begin early next year. In Need, Lane will star as a successful New York therapist who discovers that one of her patients -- a suicidal woman named Beth -- is having an affair with her husband. The co-starring role has yet to be cast. Chloe King wrote the script, which is based loosely on Lawrence David's novel of the same name. Jon Bokenkamp rewrote the material. Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and David Alper are producing. Marc and Peter Samuelson are also producing through their Samuelson Prods., as is Jonathan Prince. Lane, repped by Endeavor and Joan Hyler Management, was nominated for a best actress Oscar this year for her role in Unfaithful. She is garnering positive reviews for her upcoming turn in the Walt Disney Co.'s Under the Tuscan Sun. »

Kylie To Wed?

10 September 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Pop minx Kylie Minogue is to marry her French lover Olivier Martinez, the actor's brother has revealed. Vincent Martinez says Unfaithful star Olivier proposed to the pint-sized Aussie on a romantic cruise along the French Riviera - and presented her with a $38,000 diamond ring as proof of his love. The hunky actor has gone all out to prove his devotion after press claims of an on-set affair with Angelina Jolie, and his proposal is the final step. Vincent confirmed the engagement to Australian magazine New Idea, and even revealed that Olivier got his mother's blessing before asking the 35-year-old to be his wife. A source at the magazine says, "Vincent said Olivier had thought about proposing to Kylie for a while but wanted to have a long chat to his mother and some other people in the family before he did anything. Everyone urged him to take the plunge and he did. Vincent said his brother wanted the proposal to be extremely romantic and had taken care to make sure everything went perfectly." Singer Kylie has already taken her man back home to meet his potential in-laws, and even invited him to the El Questro Outback wildlife park, a special place where she goes to escape the pressures of fame. But doubt has been cast on the reports by the singer's own people - her spokesman insists, "As far as I'm aware Kylie is not engaged and has no plans to marry." »

Diane Lane Sues Movie Production Company

30 July 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Diane Lane has sued a movie production company, alleging it failed to finance a film she was slated to star in as well as sign up Bruce Willis as her co-star. In the lawsuit filed on Monday in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Lane alleged that Intermedia Film Equities Usa agreed to pay her $3.5 million regardless of whether or not the movie called Me Again was made - a provision known in the film industry as "pay or play". Lane, 38, claimed that Intermedia made three payments to her in June, totaling some $833,000, but has failed to pay any more, leaving a balance of about $2.7 million. According to Lane's lawsuit, Intermedia could not raise enough money to finance the film and negotiate a buyout with Willis after it realized it couldn't afford to pay him enough to make the movie. The Unfaithful star alleges that Intermedia initially tried to reassign the film and her contract to another studio, but eventually agreed to pay her off. The actress is seeking attorneys' fees and other court costs as well as the balance due on her contract. »

Renee Comes "Out of the Closet" - 40 Times

19 March 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood stunner Renee Zellweger should be up for the prize for most costume changes at this year's Oscars - after revealing she's worn nearly 40 dresses in the last three weeks. The Chicago star is up against The Hours star Nicole Kidman for Best Actress and has attended so many functions in the run up to the big night, she's worn an average of two dresses a day. Although it's a wardrobe her previous character Bridget Jones would die for, Renee says of the relentless publicity, "I'm sick of talking about myself. In fact, I'm tired of talking." Other nominations for the prestigious Academy Award include Salma Hayek for Frida, Diane Lane for Unfaithful and Julianne Moore for Far From Heaven. »

28 January 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Unfaithful star Diane Lane is planning to walk down the aisle with her boyfriend Josh Brolin. And most happy with the news is Brolin's stepmother Barbra Streisand - because she's the one who got them together at a party last spring. A source tells American tabloid the Star, "Diane and Josh are getting really serious. They're telling friends marriage could be right around the corner. And no one is surprised. They're amazing together." A pal of Brolin says of the actor, "He says he knows he's got a great girl, and he doesn't want to lose her. We're just waiting for him to make it official." Diane, 38, has a nine-year-old daughter, Eleanor, from her six-year marriage to Highlander star Christopher Lambert, and Josh, 34, is divorced from actress Deborah Adair, the mother of his son Trevor, 14, and daughter Eden, eight. Josh was previously engaged to Good Will Hunting beauty Minnie Driver. »
