Very very cute
pursenut22 January 2001
This movie is indeed about a Rip Van Winkle type situation, but there are various plot aspects like who put him to sleep, how he deals with his family when he returns from the sleep, how he helps the town. It was especially nice to be reminded that yes, just one person CAN make a difference, and our small-town USA is worth saving. It reminds us that life is magic, it isn't about your money or your status, and it does so in a lovely Disney-reminiscent rated G fashion. Watch this one with your kids!

Really Bad
kellycheek2 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Most movies that I take the time to watch, I can find some redeeming qualities. With this one, I am hard pressed to find them. The acting is generally bad, the writing is abominable, and the attempts at humour were eye-rolling groaners. The dialogue for the kid sounds like that written by an adult who cannot get the hang of "hip" speech.

And they introduced things out of nowhere to get something done. For instance, they needed to get the information off of the developer's computer, so at just the crucial moment, they decided that the kid could become invisible. There was no explanation as to how or why he suddenly had this power. They just couldn't figure out a realistic way to do it. I understand that the story is a fantasy, so I don't have a problem with a character being able to become invisible, but there has to be some sort of explanation.

Overall, my suggestion is: "Don't waste your time."

A good feel good film

Warning: Spoilers
This is not a major film, but for what it is, it's very good. The characters are well thought out and well acted by all of the actors, and the story is one that will appeal to most people who just like a feel good movie. I will not do any spoilers with this review so I won't go on for much longer. Just watch this film if you have the chance. You will have a smile on your face when it's over. Since I do have to have 4 more lines in this review before it can be posted, I will also say that Mel Harris looks lovely although I really don't see how our hero ended up with dreadlocks after sleeping for 10 years. I guess that's just a question we'll never have answered.
