Blanchett continues award success, nabs Golden Globe for Blue Jasmine

Cate Blanchett continues to remain a frontrunner for the best actress Oscar after bagging the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture . Drama at the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards, held yesterday in Beverly Hills.

Blanchett was awarded the gong for her portrayal of Jasmine, a wealthy but mentally unstable Manhattan socialite who is forced to move in with her sister in San Francisco after her husband is jailed for fraud.

Entitled Blue Jasmine, the film was written and directed by Woody Allen, who was also honoured at the Globes with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award. Though the director did not actually attend the ceremony, his long-time friend and collaborator Diane Keaton accepted it on his behalf.

Jane Campion.s Top of the Lake also received a Hollywood nod, with star Elisabeth Moss taking home the gong for Best Performance by an Actress in »
