Welcome John Michie

This is the episode when John Michie joins Taggart as DI Robbie Ross. He first appeared on the show in 1990 as Robby Meiklejohn in "Love knot." The producers were impressed enough to find him a permanent role as Fraser's side-kick.

This episode is a perfect example of the storyline we have come to expect from Taggart. Two crimes are committed in the opening minutes and two sets of investigations take place. Half way through the show a connecting link becomes obvious and the the team realizes they are after the same villain. The motive then appears to be revenge for something that occurred many years previous.

In "Few bad men," a soldier is murdered while doing his rounds at night. Jardine and Sergeant Tom Renshaw set out to solve the case. Renshaw is a rather unpleasant character who abuses his men rather than question them. Meanwhile Robbie Ross and Fraser are after counterfeiters at a race meeting. A winning horse disappears after making long odds and it appears a scam is taking place.

While investigating the murder Jacki falls for the charms of Major Andrew Graham, a liaison officer.

Soon the body count rises as Ross and Fraser make their inquiries. A vet, a bookie and a snitch are all horribly murdered.

The common link is a young girl who was murdered as a valuable horse was stolen some 13 years previous. As the team race to find the murderer will they be on time to save his final victim? This is a reasonable episode. Robbie Ross is a colorful character as he plays God's gift to women. What will he think when he discovers Fraser is gay?
