Stephen Colbert takes over as host, executive producer and writer of THE LATE SHOW on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. The comedy-variety-talk show will be broadcast five nights a week from the Ed Sullivan theater in New York.
A purported News Show created for the less capable of American Citizens who have "issues" with society. The show is designed to bring to the forefront pressing issues of the day/week, and place them into a context of a potential mental health patient who may be suffering from some delirium or psychosis.
The acting for the various factions that are brought in is passable, but bad at best. My favorite happens to be the Afghani "22 year old" who allegedly Afghanistan's ambassador sent after the infamous detonation of the Buddah statues by the Taliban government.
The concept is to test the paranoia of specific audience members by reflecting their personal notions of the world. The extremely paranoia stricken will think that their minds are being read, don aluminum foil hats, and just plain freak out to their neighbors and police. This makes them eligible for enforced treatment.
Having said that, the "News Hour with Jim Lerher" does touch on today's news events, but again, unless you're a patient, you won't get the subtext of what is being placed on the screen. Paranoid? Don't take my word for it. Just compare the news coverage given by the News Hour with commercial news on one of the big three networks.
Truth is the News Hour does give a slightly more in-depth analysis of specific topics, but glosses over others. Again, it's part of the scheme of things. Not a bad watch as such, but don't expect to get more out of this program than your average national news program.
Oh Walter Cronkite, where have you gone?
