The penultimate day of EW’s inaugural CapeTown Film Festival featured a Q&A with rock star of fantastical literature Neil Gaiman following a screening of Coraline, the animated adaptation of his 2002 book of the same name.

Gaiman, along with the film’s lead animator, Travis Knight, told the audience at the Egyptian Theatre about the difficulties of finding a studio to back Coraline, the film’s animation methods, and why scaring kids is a good thing. New 'Roman Holiday' poster: A postcard to Audrey Hepburn nostalgia

9 April 2013 2:28 PM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

Before Chasing Liberty, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, The Princess Diaries, and Kate Middleton there was Roman Holiday, the story of a princess (Audrey Hepburn) looking to be free and the reporter (Gregory Peck) who takes her on a journey through Rome. The new poster for the restored film has the Vespa featured in most of the film’s earlier posters, but has a postcard feel, adding the map and keeping the picture of Hepburn and Peck in black and white. And thus the Audrey Hepburn nostalgia continues. Unfortunately, the movie isn’t ”back in cinemas” in the United States, »

R.I.P. Jaroslav “Jerry” Gebr

21 March 2013 12:50 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Jaroslav “Jerry” Gebr, longtime head of the Scenic Arts Department at Universal Studios and perhaps best known as the artist who created the paintings featured in the pilot episode of Rod Serling’s Night Gallery, has died. Gebr passed away last month in Tarzana, CA after a long illness, according to his family. He was 86. Gebr worked for some of the biggest names in directing including Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Alfred Hitchcock and George Roy Hill during his career, and also sidelined in painting portraits and copies of artworks for stars’ collections. “They’d put the originals in safe storage and hang Jerry’s versions on the wall. Nobody could ever tell the difference”, his son-in-law Kevin McMahon said. The bulk of his work was original paintings and fine art copies for movies and TV, typically large assignments such as a full-scale reproduction of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes for »

Daniel Day-Lewis stands on verge of greatness

22 February 2013 4:07 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Odds are stacked heavily on Steven Spielberg film Lincoln bringing the actor his record-breaking third best actor statue

Daniel Day-Lewis stands on the verge of Hollywood history by becoming the Academy awards' most lauded male actor if, as is widely considered likely, he is named as best actor for the third time for his role in Lincoln at the Oscars ceremony on Sunday night.

Eight other male actors, including Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn and Gary Cooper, have two best actor Oscars. Day-Lewis already holds statuettes for My Left Foot and There Will Be Blood (awarded in 1990 and 2008 respectively). Another win will put him out on his own, confirming his position as one of the all-time greats.

Other than Day-Lewis, who holds dual UK-Irish citizenship, British hopes are not invested heavily in the acting categories: unusually for a traditional area of British strength, there is no other UK representation.

The same goes for best director, »

Anne Hathaway: I lack sex appeal

2 January 2013 8:01 AM, PST | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Anne Hathaway thinks she lacks 'sex appeal'. The 'Les Miserables' actress believes she has been stereotyped as a 'good girl' character because of her early career roles, including her breakout part as unwitting princess Mia Thermopolis in 'The Princess Diaries', which has limited her career choices. Anne proved many doubters wrong with her sexually charged portrayal of Catwoman in the latest Batman movie 'The Dark Knight Rises' but she isn't upset at being considered a 'vanilla' actress. Speaking in the February issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine, Anne said: 'I'm not Rihanna; I'm not cool. When people come up to me in the street, they often want a hug not a photo, and they want that because they like »
