trailer break: ‘Valentine’s Day’

29 December 2009 8:32 AM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Garry Marshall really is an enemy of women, what with a recent slate that looks like this: Georgia Rule, The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, Raising Helen, and Runaway Bride. This one looks to be no different. Can we count the stupid clichés about women and romance the trailer alone contains? That they culminate in the lonely, lovelorn woman eating chocolate and thanking god for a vibrating appliance is just about perfect, in an evil, antiperfect kind of way. Oh, and screenwriter Katherine Fugate wrote The Prince & Me. Just in case it wasn’t clear where all this shit was coming from. Valentine’s Day is opens in the U.S. and the U.K. on February 12, 2010. »

'Valentine's Day' Featurette Comes Out, Featuring Taylor Swift's New Song

28 December 2009 12:04 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Star-studded movie "Valentine's Day" has got another sneak peek, this time through a featurette which features scenes from the film as well as commentary from its cast. In addition, the clip also previews Taylor Swift's new song "Today Was A Fairytale" which is picked up as one of the movie's soundtracks.

Chronicling five slightly interconnecting stories occurring during one Valentine's Day in Los Angeles, "Valentine's Day" looks like another intertwining romantic comedy "Love Actually". This movie is directed by "The Princess Diaries" and "Georgia Rule" helmer Garry Marshall.

Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Topher Grace, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Biel, Taylor Lautner and Emma Roberts are among the cast members. The movie will be released in theaters across the U.S. on February 12, 2010, while the soundtrack compilation will hit stores across the country three days prior.

Yes Man (Peyton Reed, 2008)

Remember Jim Carrey in Liar, Liar, where he forces himself to tell the truth for 24 hours? Well, here Jim Carrey forces himself to answer yes to any request, for a year. Which is upping the ante somewhat, but doesn't make it a better film. This is a return to the manic, gurning, not-very-funny Carrey, as if The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine etc hadn't happened. Just say no.

The Golden Compass (Chris Weitz, 2007)

Julie Andrews To Sing Again

25 November 2009 3:19 PM, PST | Studio Briefing - Film News | See recent Studio Briefing - Film News news »

In a startling announcement, Julie Andrews and concert promoters Aeg Europe said today (Wednesday) that Julie Andrews will perform in her first concert appearance in 30 years at London's 02 Arena on May 8. Andrews had reportedly suffered permanent damage to her vocal cords during throat surgery in 1997 and had been left without the ability to sing. While she has continued to appear in movies as an actress in such films as The Princess Diaries and the voice of Queen Lillian in the Shrek movies, she has not had a singing role in films since 1982's Victor/Victoria. She did not immediately disclose how she had regained her singing capability. She said in a statement, "To perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment -- it is where it all began for me." »

Anne Hathaway Could Join 'Spider-Man 4'

19 November 2009 12:56 AM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Anne Hathaway could be turning gears from drama to superhero genre. Recently, the Academy Award-nominated actress for "Rachel Getting Married" has been linked to the much awaited "Spider-Man 4" as Deadline Hollywood reported that producers have approached her to star in the film.

What part she will take on if the story is true remains undisclosed. However, there is chance that the 27-year-old may be portraying the role of Black Cat. Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke made notes that Hathaway is "wanted for a starring role", and she refused to replace Kirsten Dunst who is set to reprise her Mary Jane Watson character.

The co-star of Meryl Streep in "The Devil Wears Prada" isn't the only actress linked to the Black Cat role. Previously, Rachel McAdams had to debunk reports suggesting her as the strong contender for the part. "That's a total rumor, I have to say," she told Entertainment Weekly. »

No 'Valentine's Day' for Joe Jonas

28 September 2009 9:09 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Contrary to earlier reports, Joe Jonas will not take a part in forthcoming romantic comedy "Valentine's Day". Setting the rumor straight was the middle of the Jonas Brothers himself. "I actually went for the audition and it was looking really good, but scheduling just wasn't working out," he opened up to Just Jared.

"They were filming in the summer and we [Jonas Brothers] were touring during the summer," the 20-year-old continued explaining. "We figured it out on our part but it was just difficult because they're working with so many superstars, that scheduling is really hard to adjust than a normal film like if it was just me and a few other people."

Although he acknowledged there is scheduling conflict, Joe didn't rule out possibility of him making a cameo completely. "It's Anne Hathaway and all these other big stars that star in that movie and they have to shift schedules around, »

The "Valentine’s Day" trailer: Is it a threat or a promise?

22 September 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

Remember how He’s Just Not That Into You kept packing in great stars but turned out to be a not-so-great movie?

The production company, New Live Cinema/Warner Brothers apparently does not remember — or, more likely, doesn’t care since the movie made $94 million. So we’re getting the same movie for next Valentine’s Day called, with classic Hollywood originality, Valentine’s Day.

Ok, it’s not exactly the same movie. But the formula is very familiar.

Start with a big-name cast.

Ashton Kutcher, Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Shirley McLaine, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Bradley Cooper

Add too many more big-name stars to list, including Queen Latifiah and Jamie Foxx.

Then throw in a dollop of gossip fodder, just to add buzz.

What do you get? Here’s the trailer.

Yawn. But a few things make me hope for something more Love Actually than Not Into You. »
