Plans by Bette Midler to write a tell-all book about working on her sitcom Bette have been cancelled. Last month it was reported Bette would receive $1 million from Simon And Schuster publishers, to write Cancelled, memoirs about her time on the now-defunct show. But Bette's representative Cindi Berger now says, "They called it off." The reason behind the decision is reportedly conglomerate politics. Simon and Schuster belong to Viacom, as does the television company CBS which produced the sitcom. A publisher says that Simon & Schuster felt that a negative portrayal of the network would be detrimental to the company. »
