Knowing is a movie I feel like I've been following forever. I remember being fascinated when I first heard the premise - a child's drawings in a recently unearthed time capsule accurately predict a series of disasters. I mean, how cool is that? I was disappointed that Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) was no longer involved but happy that the film fell into the hands of someone I trust dearly, Alex Proyas. All these years later Knowing is almost here with its March, 2009 release just a few »

Our boy cyberhal was lucky enough to get an interview with Michael Bartlett (The Zombie Diaries) in while he was visiting La, and while we've been holding off on publishing the interview, we've received some further news. Michael is currently in talks with a number of artists to turn one of the feature films he has in the works, Timeless, into a graphic novel. A post apocalyptic film described as a cross between Sin City and The Butterfly Effect, the central theme of the film is addiction and it is through that we explore time travel in a way never seen before. Michael and Kevin Gates are also working on another film called Forever Darkness which is like a cross between The Mist and Pitch Black. While I can't give you many details it sounds awesomely apocalyptic. As an added bonus, there's a link to a Pa short Bartlett did »

Holiday Movie Junk: A Talking Frank the Bunny

1 December 2008 3:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

While I still think there's nothing cooler than the talking Tick I got a friend, this other (in)action figure is pretty cool. At some online outlets like Panik's Toy Box, you can pick up a foot-tall talking figure of Frank the Bunny. You know, James Duval's character from Donnie Darko.

As you can see to the right, Frank is chilling next to a mailbox, and you can choose to keep him at his bunny best, or switch the head and look at human Frank. The phrases that play include: "Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?" -- of course -- and "Do you believe in time travel?" As for the price, it's not too bad -- $34.99 -- and it's much more worthy than that damned director's cut. (Although the #1 fan bit rocks.)

Now we just need a Heathers figurine that belts out classics like "How very" and I'll be a happy camper. »

Five Star Day Gets A Twilighter

17 November 2008 2:39 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Five Star Day is getting two hot young actors. According to Hr, Cam Gigandet (Twilight) and Jena Malone (The Ruins, Donnie Darko) will team up in this indie drama as a couple. Gigandet's character is a man who loses everything and must take a journey of self-discovery. By his side throughout this quest is a girlfriend (Malone) and his wise best friend who'll be played by Will Yun Lee (Bionic Woman). Sounds very typical in terms of a youth drama, so it'll be exciting to get a better sense of the film's potential as more of the plot is revealed. Malone's a known quantity, but it's not until the release of Twilight on the 21st, that we'll get to see what Gigandet is capable of, beyond his role in Never Back Down. All three stars have a lot on their schedule. Gigandet, of course, has Twilight followed by the horror »

It’s not very difficult for a producer or director to pitch a comedy or drama, a family or science fiction flick. The rules are pretty much already in place and only a small percentage of what’s seen in theaters does much to move beyond these categories—for better or worse, most entertainment is largely the same. Where there are no rules, though, is in the world of cult films. What makes John Waters’ movies cult classics is so different from what makes Eraserhead or Donnie Darko revered by midnight spectators that it’s a mug’s game figuring out what will find its audience. Thinking along these lines, Repo! The Genetic Opera is unique, »
