A truly shocking piece of film that still makes an impression nearly 30 years later. Despite the subject matter of domestic violence, this somewhat traditional British film stands up well and I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was...a compelling piece of drama with some very solid performances from a fine cast. Sarah Douglas makes a fine lead, and it is refreshing to see her in a performance totally different from those that ultimately typecast her as the bad girl we all love to hate. Also, Julian Glover delivers a thoroughly disturbing performance as the wife-beating, cross-dressing, would-be-branding monster of a husband. Allowing for the fashions, as this was made in the 1970s, the film stands up well for the simple reason that domestic violence is an issue people face to this day.
