Bagged and Boarded Comic Reviews: Locke and Key, Evil Ernie, and more!

21 December 2012 11:30 AM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

New comic book Wednesday has come and gone. The dust at your local comic shop has settled. An eerie silence descends as you finish reading your last superhero book of the week. Now it's time for something a little more sinister. Welcome to Bagged and Boarded: comic reviews of the sick, spooky, twisted and terrifying!

Locke and Key: Omega No. 2

Big trouble is on the horizon. Bode's body has been taken over by a demon spirit, and the only one who can see Bode's lingering soul is Rufus, his mentally handicapped buddy. Armed with this knowledge but without the faculties to really express it, he lashes out against the possessed Bode and pays the price for it.

Bag it or board it up? Have you been following the series? If the answer is "no" skip this comic. They're so far into the mythos of this series it would be hard to catch up. »

18 December 2012 11:37 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) directs the February comedy/crime flick Identity Thief, which teams up Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) and Melissa McCarthy (Bridemaids) as a very odd couple: a straight-laced businessman and the outrageous criminal who empties his bank account after stealing his identity.

The first Identity Thief trailer emphasizes the contrast between Bateman as the unwitting schmo and McCarthy’s cartoonish, frizzled-haired law-breaker. Today, we have a new theatrical promo that dives deeper into the plot and better accounts for the madness that ensues when these two people’s worlds collide.

All things considered, this new preview is an improvement on its predecessor. For starters, it provides an actual explanation as to why Bateman treks across the U.S. in order to capture McCarthy on his own. Moreover, introducing Genesis Rodriguez (Man on a Ledge, The ...

If you’re on this site, then no doubt you’re just as big a fan of John Carpenter as we are. And while he rarely ever sequelized his own properties, one of his flicks that we wish got a sequel was his now cult-classic Big Trouble In Little China. Well, we’re not the only ones that thought that apparently! This You Tube video titled “Lo Pan Style”, a Gangnam Style Parody recently surfaced and gives us a humorous glimpse at what could have happened following the events of Carpenter’s film. In fact, I first heard about this through a friend that told me Carpenter himself played it before a recent screening of Big Trouble so the director has seen it an apparently approves! A lot of different peeps were involved in the creation of this thing, so hit up the original You Tube link Here for the full credits. »

Chris Brown -- you may think that you can have both Rihanna and Karrueche Tran as your girlfriends and bedmates at the same time, but you are asking for trouble. Big trouble. It was just a few weeks ago in New York City that you broke up with Karrueche after clubbing with Rihanna and having sexy overnights at her hotel. You asked Karrueche to move out of your L.A. home, which she did, and you started getting even more serious with Rihanna -- visiting her at her music studio while she recorded and then spending the nights together. Rihanna even came out to support you at your new Qubeey website event pm Oct 20, where an eyewitness told us that »

Resident Evil 6 Achievements Leaked

8 August 2012 7:26 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Anyone who is a chevo junkie like I am, you might be interested to see the Resident Evil 6 Xbox Achievement list that has just been leaked. There are 50 achievements in total with most unlocking as you play through the game’s various campaigns. You also have four difficulty levels – Amateur, Normal, Veteran and Professional and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that those are stacked because there is nothing more annoying than having to replay a game through all the difficulty levels, just for the achievements.

It looks like you will also have to keep an eye open for collectables, as there’s an achievement for collecting all the ”serpent emblems.”  There is also one called  ”They’re Action Figures!” which you get when you collect ”3 figures” whatever they are.

For owners of Sony’s console, I’m sure the list for PlayStation Trophies will be identical to this. So, »

Hollywood Ethics: Should Movies Be Changed Based on Current Events?

1 August 2012 12:47 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The words Hollywood and ethics together may seem like a Starburst-esque contradiction, but an issue has come up that needs addressing. Following the tragedy in Aurora Colorado where a man opened fire into an audience during a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the media and studios alike are trying to figure out how violence in films impacts society. Some point the finger at violent films like Batman. Others want to just move on. Warner Brothers recently delayed the release of their upcoming crime film “Gangster Squad” due to a climactic scene involving the protagonists shooting into an audience at a movie. They didn’t just delay the release, but are bringing all the big name actors back to shoot a new climax and change the film so the ominous connection no longer exists.

Now, those who don’t follow movie news and see “Gangster Squad” in its new »

Big Trouble in Little China's Jack Burton watches the Prometheus trailer

20 June 2012 6:29 PM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Question: what do you get when you take a character that Kurt Russell played in the 1980s (inspired by John Wayne, no less) and have him comment on Ridley Scott's latest opus, Prometheus? Why, dear reader, it's the internet's latest mash-up and collision of two cinematic worlds.

Russell's character is, of course, two-fisted trucker Jack Burton from the 1986 John Carpenter movie Big Trouble in Little China. If you've seen Big Trouble, then you may recall Burton's style of saying what's on his mind and in his larger-than-life style.

Maybe it's a commentary on the critical pummelling that Prometheus has taken from some quarters but the line delivery works pretty well in sync with the trailer (especially Burton's "What the hell does that mean?" comment. You'll see what I mean.)

Review: 'Men In Black 3' Is A Surprisingly Decent Return To Form For The Flagging Franchise

21 May 2012 9:05 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Much has been made of the herculean efforts it took to get “Men in Black 3” to the big screen – the constant rewrites, the lengthy hiatus, Will Smith’s giant trailers pissing off much of lower Manhattan – so the mere fact that “Men in Black 3” is watchable at all is something of a pleasant surprise. What’s downright shocking is how enjoyable “Men in Black 3” actually is – it’s an agreeably loopy, visually sumptuous, intermittently clever sci-fi comedy that does much to erase the bad memories of 2002’s wretched “Men in Black II,” easing back into the deadpan weirdness that made the original film so much fun.

The basic premise of “Men in Black” (as teased out in two feature films, an animated series, and a ride at Universal Studios where you fire ray guns at intergalactic foes), is that there are aliens living among us and the Men in Black, »

SXSW 2012 Exclusive Interview: Director Paco Plaza Talks Rec 3: Genesis, Working for the Fans and More

12 March 2012 7:10 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

As mentioned in an earlier news piece about [Rec} 4, Dread Central has been on hand in Austin, Texas, for the 2012 SXSW Film Festival, and during our time we had the opportunity to chat with one of our favorite independent filmmakers working today: Paco Plaza.

In 2007 both he and fellow [Rec] franchise co-creator Jaume Balagueró reinvigorated the found footage subgenre on a global level with the release of their low budget, high ambition first installment of the series, which followed a group of people trapped inside a building amidst a deadly viral outbreak that left them quarantined away from the outside world.

During our chat with Plaza, we spoke with the director about the latest entry in their franchise - [Rec] 3: Genesis (review here) - as well as how the original film changed his and Balagueró’s lives, how important the fans are to the success of these films and more on the challenges and opportunities of leaving found footage filmmaking behind.

Check out the highlights from our exclusive interview with Plaza below, and look for more coverage coming soon from the SXSW Film Festival.

Pretty Little Liars Sneak Peeks: Hanna's in Big Trouble in Episode 2.19

This week's Pretty Little Liars saw Hanna being on the outside of the group as the girls worked with Caleb to decode more of 'A's cellphone.  All of them felt bad about keeping it a secret from Hanna (who knew something was going on), but finding out the information on the phone was crucial.  Caleb did manage to decode more of the videos and one of them revealed a fake ID of Alison's that none of the girls had seen before.  And one that strangely featured Alison in a dark wig.  When Hanna found out the truth, she was very upset with Emily, but the two made up by the end of the episode.  Hanna also revealsed a secret: she had seen Alison with dark hair before, years ago.  And a book she had borrowed from Alison yielded a »
