Snake Plissken & Jack Burton Meet In Comics

11 July 2016 12:01 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

In time for the 30th anniversary of John Carpenter's cult classic "Big Trouble In Little China," Boom! Studios is set to publish a six-part crossover comic that should delight fans of the Carpenter/Russell collaborations says EW.

In the comic, Big Trouble's Jack Burton time-travels from 1986 to the year 1997, a dystopian realm where he meets the eyepatch-wearing Snake Plissken from Carpenter's "Escape from New York". Kurt Russell played both roles in the films and to this day they are still arguably his most iconic characters.

Greg Pak is penning and Daniel Bayliss is doing the art for the comic which has the full approval of Carpenter. Whether the villains of the films, Isaac Hayes' The Duke and James Hong's Lo-Pan, will show up - you'll have to wait and see.

Boom Studios will also be releasing two books later this year - "The Official »

How ‘Rick and Morty’ Creators Animated Trippy ‘Back to the Future’ Riff for Adults (Emmy Watch)

21 June 2016 11:39 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

While animated sci-fi series “Rick and Morty” began as a hallucinatory “Back to the Future” riff, in its second season on Adult Swim it’s turned more Philip K. Dick in its trippy embrace of alternate realities and alien worlds. Sociopathic scientist Rick Sanchez enlists naive grandson Morty in a series of mind-bending, intergalactic adventures, putting their dysfunctional family in continuous peril.

For creators Justin Roiland (“Adventure Time” voice actor) and Dan Harmon (“Community” creator), the first season was all about the crazy inventions, while the second concentrated more on exploration. “We’re trying to make sure that we never paint ourselves into a corner conquering the nihilism of an infinite universe,” said Harmon.

The comedy is both smart and low-brow with scattered sci-fi and other pop cultural references along with plenty of sex and scatological humor.

The flat animation style, meanwhile, evokes both “The Simpsons” and “The Ren & Stimpy Show. »

Yes, That 'Big Trouble in Little China' Remake Is Still Happening

24 May 2016 6:00 PM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

Roughly one year ago, it was announced that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was in talks to star in a remake of John Carpenter's classic, Big Trouble in Little China, for 20th Century Fox. At the time it was announced that X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz were writing the script, and that Johnson was going to play the Jack Burton role made famous by Kurt Russell in the 1986 original. In that film Russell plays a blue-collar truck driver who finds himself roped into a centuries-old battle with an evil sorcerer. The divisive remake -- Big Trouble is one of those properties fans hold near and dear to their hearts -- will likely update that story and contemporize it with a more modern-day spin, utilizing all the latest special effects. That's...

First Look at Making of Big Trouble in Little China Book

10 May 2016 2:44 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

While we continue to ponder whether or not the Big Trouble in Little China remake starring Dwayne Johnson is a good thing, we now have something new and exciting to pour over from the original movie itself. As we approach the 30th Anniversary of Big Trouble in Little China, which was released July 2, 1986, we have a first look at the big coffee table book that explores the making of the movie. Along with the cover art, we also have two behind-the-scenes photos.

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we get a sneak peek at this awesome tome from authors Tara Bennett and Paul Terry. At the time of Big Trouble's debut in theaters, the Fourth of July release date window wasn't what it has become today. And the movie didn't fare too well amongst other big summer blockbusters. Its box office reception was tepid, to say the least, pulling in just $11 million. »

We could have called the Veronica Mars movie. We could have guessed that Twin Peaks would get a reprieve from cancellation. And it made sense that The X-Files would get a follow-up series. But Full House? All these years later? This is one we didn't see coming. We got eight seasons and 192 episodes detailing the life lessons learned by Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), his three daughters and all the other people who came through the beautiful San Francisco Victorian they called home. Read More: Watch: 'The Americans' Season 4 Trailer Teases Big Trouble "The Americans" has never been a show afraid to push boundaries. From Episode 1 on, the series has pushed the boundaries of what's allowed on cable television with its brutal violence and heated sex scenes. Of course, it's all portrayed with the utmost class and character, but the family drama is also one of the more adult offerings airing right now.  In two new trailers for Season 4, fans should be reminded of just that. Though no new footage from the upcoming season is included, stars Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell are as fresh as ever while seducing two new marks. The second video is all atmosphere, harkening back to the Cold War tensions the period drama is built on. Together they're quite the tease for what we've been missing these past few months, making Season 4 all the more eagerly anticipated. »
