Farrell Doesn't Want James Bond Role

9 November 2004 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Colin Farrell has answered Pierce Brosnan's call for him to become the new James Bond - by declaring he doesn't want the role. Last week, Brosnan announced he would like fellow Irishman Farrell to follow in his footsteps and portray the suave spy. But Farrell tells Reuters, "The idea of me playing James Bond got into the press, but it is not true. I would not like to do it...they should find someone the audience has no history with. Anyway, Her Majesty's Secret Service wouldn't have me on the payroll." Finding a successor to Brosnan as agent 007 has been the subject of intense speculation for months, with Hugh Jackman, Jude Law and Ewan McGregor just a few in a long list of possible replacements. Brosnan fulfilled his four-film contract with Die Another Day in 2002. The next film is not slated to be released until 2006. »

Fox, UGC end partnership for Gallic distribution

28 August 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

20th Century Fox and UGC announced Friday that they will establish separate distribution organizations in France, effective Jan. 1, ending an association spanning almost a decade. "With the number of titles UGC and Fox are producing and the French market undergoing considerable changes over the past 10 years, we felt it was the logical step to separate the partnership in favor of our own separate ventures," the companies said in a joint statement. Since July 1995, UGC and Fox have operated under the joint-venture banner of UGC Fox Distribution, which has been responsible for some of the largest releases of all time in France, including Titanic, Amelie, the two Star Wars prequels, Die Another Day, Tanguy, Minority Report and Tais Toi. Further details on the structures of the ventures are forthcoming, the companies said. »

Brosnan: "Let Tarantino Make a Bond Film"

20 May 2004 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

007 star Pierce Brosnan is desperate to make a James Bond film with maverick movie-maker Quentin Tarantino. The Kill Bill auteur recently revealed his ambitions to make a Bond movie, and Brosnan - rumored to be stepping down as the superspy after making his fourth 007 film - thinks he'd be fantastic. When asked what Tarantino would add to the franchise, Brosnan gushes, "Life. A great sense of excitement and danger and the perspective of a film-maker who's really made people sit up and watch his movies. He's got a cutting edge which we got with the last Bond film Die Another Day with Lee Tamahori's sense of flair. They allowed him, more than any other director, to go out there with it. So someone like Quentin would be magnificent, whether it's me as Bond or some other guy." »

007 Brosnan Gives Quentin's Bond Dreams a Boost

30 April 2004 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Pierce Brosnan is offering his support to Quentin Tarantino as the Pulp Fiction director bids to take over the James Bond franchise. Tarantino is an unlikely favorite to take charge of the next Bond film after making his love of 007 known to the series's producers. And, after meeting with the maverick director, Brosnan insists Tarantino would be a perfect choice to direct Casino Royale, which was filmed as an unofficial Bond spoof starring David Niven in 1967. He says, "Quentin and I met and he is a huge Bond fan. He wants to remake Casino Royale. I don't know if it's ever going to happen. What Tarantino would bring to the film is life, and just a great sense of excitement and danger, and the perspective of a film-maker who has really made people sit up and watch his movies. He's got a cutting edge, which we got with the last Bond film, Die Another Day - with Lee Tamahori's sense of flair. Someone like Quentin would be magnificent." »

Bond Bosses at Loggerheads

5 April 2004 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

James Bond star Pierce Brosnan will have to wait longer to find out if he's taking on the infamous role one more time - the film's bosses are at loggerheads over whether to cast a new actor in the role. The Irish actor recently revealed 007 producers were in "paralysis" over plans for Bond 21, and he is unsure if he will return for his fifth outing as the suave superspy. Now sources claim scriptwriters Andrew Neal and Robert Wade are in conflict with Eon Productions - who make the movies - over what direction the next film will take. An insider says, "The two scriptwriters want one kind of Bond, while Eon wants another. Neal and Wade want to go back to basics and concentrate on the plot and the characters, but Eon wants an even bigger special effects bonanza than Die Another Day, with loads of gadgets and computer wizardry. Obviously the issue affects the choice of who plays Bond." »

Brosnan To Be Bond Again

22 March 2004 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood bosses were forced to offer Pierce Brosnan the chance to play James Bond for a fifth time - after fans threatened to boycott the films if they replaced him. Brosnan, who last played 007 in 2002's Die Another Day, was only optioned to reprise his role as the secret agent - and producers were considering recruiting fellow Irishman Colin Farrell. According to British newspaper The Daily Star Sunday, bosses deliberately leaked plans to gauge the response from the movie-going public - and were inundated with appeals not to ditch Brosnan. An un-named MGM executive tells the newspaper, "We didn't realize what an army of supporters Pierce has. We got the message Pierce stays." »

A source says, "Britney's desperate to carve out a name for herself as an actress and loves the idea of being a Bond girl. She's in great shape and thinks she'd be brilliant.
