The three-girl triangle presents a far more intriguing short that uses avaliable light and relatively altered settings. This grimy 16mm aestheic is very infectious and it captures that grass-in-the-toes feeling of unforbidden youth in the late 70's. The girls hair is always damp for an over chlorined pool. In the film's most winningest shot of the movie,Emily, a girl forced to the outside of Katie and Maura's homosexual relationship(lesbian lovers) sits on a power generator by the pool, her knees up to her chin as she watches the other two swim and discuss the relationship between her and Maura(in stunning underwater photography). Weeki Wachee Girls is about sexual curiousity, and successfully parallels homophobia with pre-adolescent sexual ignorance. Catch it if it comes to a town near you. Saw this as part of a state Womanhood film festival in North Carolina.
