The script was written with John Waters, Russ Meyer, and Angelyne in mind for the lead roles. The role of Phoebe Love was written with Linnea Quigley in mind.
"Sexbomb" was highly anticipated by the horror community due to Fangroria covering the making of the film and hyping the movie as a comedic spoof on horror movies, but due to distribution issues, "Sexbomb" wasn't released until going direct-to-video in 2003.
The villain in the film-within-the-film is named Ethan. This is a nod to Jason Voorhees, who was frequently named "Ethan" in the "Friday the 13th" sequel scripts to keep the productions a secret.
