China Makes First "Hollywood Film"

Calling it the "First Chinese-Made Hollywood Film," China's official People's Daily reported Saturday that Pavilion of Women, based on a novel by Pearl Buck (The Good Earth, Dragon Seed), will open worldwide on April 20. The film was produced by the American-Chinese writer and actress Luo Yan, who also co-stars in the film with Willem Dafoe. The film was simultaneously shot in English and Chinese and was jointly produced by Universal Pictures and China's Silver Dream Production. "Experts here expressed their hope that the film could help Chinese film artists compete in the international arena," People's Daily observed. »
