The game contains a large number of visual references to the "Pirates Of The Carribean" ride at Disneyland, as well as at least one puzzle inspired by the ride's famous Jail Cell/Dog With Keys scene. "Pirates Of The Carribean" was a huge inspiration for Ron Gilbert in developing the ambiance of the first two Monkey Island games. Gilbert's other big inspiration was the book "On Stranger Tides" by Tim Powers. See more
