Storyline

Filmed right after the merger between Disney and Jim Henson productions, the Muppet's are featured heading to the greatest place on earth, Walt Disney World. Kermit and Robin take the gang to the swamp for a vacation in Califorina. It is the annual Bug Fry and it's a journey to the roots again for Kermit and Robin. However, the rest of the cast is less than excited about being in a stinking bog. When it is mentioned that they can see the fireworks from Disney, everyone is excited and wants to go to the park instead of being at the bug fry. Kermit says the'll take a short peak and be right back. As the Muppets accidentally break into the park, security tries to round them all up as they visit all of the parks. Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney/MGM. Finally, after being round back up, they get a chance to meet the one and only Mickey Mouse and show a huge musical number at the end. Trivia

As an in-joke, the announcer at the Indiana Jones attraction says that they need someone from the audience who resembles Tom Selleck, the actor. Tom Selleck was the original choice for Indiana Jones but he eventually declined the offer to play him in the Raiders of the Lost Ark in order to star in his own detective TV show, P.I. Magnum. The show became a big hit on television at the time. Clips from Selleck's Indiana Jones audition tapes were included in the Indiana Jones Trilogy making-of documentary. See more »

A Fitting Final Work for Jim Henson
27 September 2006 | by See all my reviews

The only thing that mars this special is that Jim Henson passed away a few days after its airing. Other than that, this is possibly one of the best Disney specials ever. The perfect blend of Muppet humor and Disney magic truly combines here to make a wonderful show. My favorite scene is when the Swedish Chef puts a Scandinavian twist on a classic Mexican dish. Raven's cameo is cute and captures the essence of a Disney vacation, and it's cool to see what today's stars looked like when they were younger. And in this special, Kermit the Frog uses a gun! (Sort of.) Overall, if you can find this somewhere, watch it. If you own it, watch it again. And to Jim Henson, wherever you are, you went out in a flourish of excellence, and that will never be duplicated by anyone.
