Thompson Flashes Her Backside To Calm Co-star's Nerves

22 March 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Emma Thompson bared her backside on the opening day of filming new TV movie Wit to help her co-star relax. The actress plays terminally ill cancer patient Vivian Bearing in the new movie, directed by Mike Nichols, and when she realized her co-star Jonathan Woodward felt awkward poking her on his first day of filming she set about helping him relax. Woodward makes his movie debut as Bearing's doctor in Wit. Nicholls recalls, "He was almost passing out, trying to fake putting his arm inside Emma. Suddenly she leaned forward, hiked up her gown, and said airily, `Feel free to rummage.'" »

Emma Thompson To Abandon Acting For Writing?

15 February 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Emma Thompson's acting days are coming to an end, to be replaced by a future in writing. The British star, who has a 14-month-old daughter called Gaia with fellow actor Greg Wise, has decided to prioritise motherhood over movie stardom - and believes scriptwriting is now a more viable career option. She says, "I know I should get back to acting, but I have a baby and I'm in love with her and I want to spend time with her." The dedicated mother is currently receiving rave reviews both in America and at Germany's Berlin Film Festival for her role in Wit, the story of an English literature teacher's fight with cancer. She stars in and co-wrote the movie, which is adapted from Margaret Edison's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. At the film's American premiere she told the press, "I am writing a lot, I'm working on a biography and a children's film at the moment." Thompson, who won an Academy Award for the movie Sense And Sensibility in 1996, is known to be working on a number of other new projects in a writing capacity. »
