The real Life and Death of Peter Sellers, 19 August 2005

When THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS was released in May last year, most people didn't know how to handle it. Here they saw their great idol, the comic genius Peter Sellers --loved so deeply all through the world for his interpretations of Dr. Strangelove, Chance the Gardener, Hrundi Bakshi, and of course Inspector Closeau-- portrayed as a cruel and cynical monster. Also undersigned was offended by the film, it took me several weeks to make a sort of reconciliation with the person Peter Sellers and the actor Peter Sellers. Yes, the acting by Geoffrey Rush was very good, but the film itself was unclear and confusing.

When you watch THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS, one thing is clear. Roger Lewis, the man who wrote the book which the film is based on, only hates Peter Sellers. Don't ask me why. The film lacks all information of Sellers' childhood. The film is simply about the problems with his wives that surrounded him (an them), and of course his most important movies.

So, to all of Sellers' fans, this is the documentary you need. Here you have your chance to see several interviews with Sellers' friends and colleagues, people who respected him as a person and master comedian, and clips from almost lost films and shows such as PENNY POINTS TO PARADISE, LET'S GO CRAZY, A SHOW CALLED FRED and A DAY AT THE BEACH, in addition to clips and interpretations about his classics.

To you who want to see a man (Geoffrey Rush) play some of Sellers' greatest characters in an excellent way, watch THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS. To you who want to see the life and death of Peter Sellers, watch THE UNKNOWN PETER SELLERS.
