Before I'd seen this video, I'd only heard who Ted Healy was, a gloryhound who treated the Stooges unfairly. After viewing the ABC special last night, those conclusions I'd come to seem accurate. However, most of the material that was used with Healy is recognizable to any self-respecting Stooge fan, from Larry's "I'll work when I'm ready...", to Curly's "Nyuk nyuk nyuk." This is not to say that Healy created these sketches, but that they can be seen in their fresh, vivid newness as Moe, Larry, and Curly play foils for Healy in this video. Alongside Healy, the Stooges perform with vivacity that is oftentimes missing in some of the shorts that fans have seen on television.
I have laughed at this video so many times, and it still hasn't gotten old. If the Stooges are close to your heart, whether they be something you remember growing up, sharing with a brother or a sister, or watching with a son or daughter, do yourself a favor and pick up this video. It will make you appreciate things you've forgotten about Moe, Larry, and Curly, and possibly even things about your own life.
