The game provides two options for play, "Normal" and "Sci-Fi." If played on Sci-Fi, the player will encounter some extremely smelly underground creatures known as the Crepitus. Crepitus is the latin word for "fart".
One of the "websites" the player can access via the game's laptop is an insurance company called "Malleus, Incus, and Stapes," which are actually three bones (collectively known as the "ossicles") located in mammal skulls and used to conduct sound.
In 2004 an updated version of the game was released with all the sectors of the game and weapons modified. Although new weapons were added, no new characters or dialogue was introduced and the reworked plot (involving drug cartels controlling the country of Arulco) was haphazardly presented. Unlike the 2001 add-on "Unfinished Business," this was not a sequel, merely an adjusted version of the original game.
When Monica "Buns" Sondergaard improves one of her skills (marksmanship, experience, leadership, etc.) she says, "Every day, in every way, I get better and better." This is actually the maxim of the "Coue Method", a method of self-healing devised by Emile Coue (1857-1926), a pharmacist and psychotherapist. Very popular in the U.S. for a time, it consisted of the patient repeating that phrase to him or herself several times a day.
