Clooney Back With Brit Babe?

15 November 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Reports of George Clooney's split from stunning Renée Zellweger seem to be gaining weight - he's been spotted on dates with his former lover. George had ended his romance with stunning British pin-up Lisa Snowden before romancing Bridget Jones's Diary star Renée, but their love hit the rocks after his womanizing ways got to be too much. And now Clooney, 40, and 28-year-old Lisa have been on a string of intimate dinner dates at LA eateries and she has spent a few nights at his mansion. A friend of the statuesque model's says, "Even after they split up, George and Lisa remained good friends, so with her in the States it was only a matter of time before they got together. She's not saying much about it as it's early days and they are taking things slowly. The chemistry between them is electric, so maybe this time they'll be together longer." »

Zellweger's Big Panties Surge Oversized Underwear Sales

31 May 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Lingerie worn by Renée Zellweger in Bridget Jones's Diary has been credited for a new fashion surge - in oversized granny panties. The film features a steamy scene where Hugh Grant's womanizing character Daniel unexpectedly discovers that Bridget, played by Zellweger, wears stomach-controlling underwear instead of sexy, lacy thongs. Initially horrified, Daniel finally decides the oversized underpants are sexy. And the comic moment has been credited as the catalyst for increased sales of larger underwear in both America and Britain. Norma Flanagan of the Donna Karan fashion house, which just released a line of updated girdles in multiple colors and styles, says, "We've come a long way from your grandmother's underwear." Flanagan adds that Donna Karan stores can barely keep up with the demand for the Firm Control Brief Panty, which is similar to Bridget's sensible knickers. »

In the May 3rd and 4th issues of the Celebrity News column, WENN provided us with two stories that originated from other sources, but did not credit those sources for them. The May 3rd story about Charlie Sheen and Slash came from Charlie's interview in this month's Playboy. The May 4th story about Renée Zellweger not doing the Bridget Jones's Diary sequel came from Ted Casablanca's gossip column on E!Online. The Internet Movie Database has remedied WENN's omissions in our Celebrity News archives and would like to express our sincerest apologies to those publications for them. »

Renée Zellweger Doubts She'll Star In Bridget Jones Sequel

4 May 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Renée Zellweger is doubtful she'll star in the Bridget Jones's Diary sequel - because it will mean spending more time in London. Although the British production company Working Title has already bought the rights to The Edge Of Reason, Zellweger is warning she may not reprise her role, says E!Online columnist Ted Casablanca. Renée, skinny again after some intense dieting, told Casablanca the extra weight she put on to play beloved Bridget is not keeping her away from the role. Said Zellweger, "I mean, living in London again for nine months! Who cares about the weight?" »

Clooney & Zellweger An Item?

2 May 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Renée Zellweger spent her 32nd birthday last week getting cozy with George Clooney in Los Angeles, California. Gorgeous George - who is dating British model Lisa Snowdon - kissed and cuddled the Bridget Jones's Diary actress all night, rarely letting Renee out of his sight. Guests such as Jay Leno, Helen Hunt and Tom Cruise looked on as Clooney, 40 next week (May 6th), danced with Renée for more than half an hour at the birthday bash on Saturday. A guest at the party said, "Renée and George looked more than just good friends. They slow-danced for six consecutive songs and she kept giggling as he whispered in her ear. He patrolled the party with his arm around her. They spent most of their time together." Renée was later overheard telling friends, "I am so drunk I just want to go home to my bed." A close friend responded with, "You don't have to do anything with him you don't want to." »

Colin Firth: I'm Not A Star

27 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Despite the massive success of his new movie Bridget Jones's Diary, actor Colin Firth insists he's not a star. The 40-year-old Brit, who stars alongside Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant in the hit film, has appeared in movies such as The English Patient and Shakespeare In Love, but is reluctant to deem himself a celebrity. He explains, "It's exhausting to have expectations all the time. And I talked myself out of that years ago. Such as they were. I think that when one starts out, I didn't have that sort of burning ambition to be famous. Partly because it just never entered my head it could be possible. Partly because it wasn't what interested me." »

Colin Firth Causes Problems For Bridget Jones Sequel

26 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding has found a flaw in the adaptation of her sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason -- Colin Firth has to be in it twice. Firth is currently on the big screen playing Bridget's perfect man Mark Darcy in the blockbusting movie starring Renee Zellweger, but in the book's sequel, Firth actually appears as himself, which Fielding realizes could cause some confusion for audiences. She says, "I wrote the part of Mark Darcy for Colin Firth, and I do hope he will come back for a repeat of his lovely performance. If he does, he will simply have to don a large beard and handlebar mustache and play himself as well." Working Title, who produced the first Bridget Jones movie, scripted by Richard Curtis, will not disclose details of conversations of talent. »

Renee Zellweger's High School Date Brands Her A Goody-Goody

24 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Renee Zellweger's portrayal of a sex-obsessed single woman in the hit film Bridget Jones's Diary is a long way from her real-life persona, claims her high school prom date. Todd Thompson, who dated the Texan-born actress at school says that Zellweger was a goody-goody girlfriend, who wasn't interested in sex and was saving herself for Mr Right. Thompson says, "There would be kissing and cuddling, but she'd never let me go any further. A couple of times I tried to persuade her that we should get serious and have, shall we say, a more intimate relationship, but she'd just say: 'I'm happy the way it is'. She wanted to stay that way until she met the perfect man." Thompson adds Zellweger, who has since dated funnyman Jim Carrey, was still a big hit with the boys and was voted best-looking by her high school classmates. Thompson admits, "Renee was the last person I expected to become a movie star. She was too sweet!" »

Bridget Jones's Diary took 3rd place in the U.S. with a $10.8 million gross, and its $8.4 million gross in the UK gave it not only #1 status for the weekend, but made it one of the best opening weekends on record. »

Hugh Grant Thanks Divine Brown For Career Luck

12 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hugh Grant believes his arrest after being caught with a prostitute was the best career move he ever made. The hunky Bridget Jones's Diary star is notorious for the embarrassing incident with hooker Divine Brown in Hollywood in 1995. But Grant, who last year split with actress Liz Hurley after a 14-year relationship, admits the incident opened lots of doors for him. He explains, "The day I was arraigned, Joe Roth from Disney rang and said, 'Please, please, please I beg you on bended knees to do 101 Dalmatians.' And you can't get more family-orientated than that. I got way more offers after the arrest than I did before, really and truly. But I couldn't bear to do c**p all those years. I've never turned down anything that's gone on to be a success except the villain in Titanic and I'm still delighted I didn't do that. I have done a few things that turned out to be failures." »

Geri Takes Fan To Premiere

5 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Geri Halliwell (a.k.a. the former Ginger Spice) stole the show at the Bridget Jones's Diary premiere by giving a male fan her spare ticket and inviting him in with her. The sexy star, whose single It's Raining Men is the title track of the movie, was dressed in a clingy, see-through Julien McDonald number which showed off the two tattoos on her back. When Geri, 28, arrived at the Empire in London's Leicester Square, she called out to the crowd with, "I am looking for a man. Who wants to escort me tonight?" Gorgeous Geri then pointed to a tall, dark admirer - who promptly jumped over the security fence and gallantly escorted her. "I identify with Bridget talking about boys, sex, overeating and all that." Geri said after the film. "Renee Zellweger is brilliant and it is the best performance Hugh Grant has ever given." »

Hugh Grant - I'm Single And Unfashionable

4 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Handsome actor Hugh Grant has the same insecurities as fictional heroine Bridget Jones. Bad haircuts, weight problems, clothes and relationships are some of his obsessions. The single star who split from model girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley in May 2000, worries that his new short haircut is 'not hip', that designers would rather he didn't wear their clothes and that he is looking horribly middle-aged. He says, "There was a moment about a year-and-a-half ago when I looked up into the mirror and my eyes looked up and my face stayed hanging down in the basin." The 40-year old actor also admits that he will probably not go out with another actress because "they're too mad, too neurotic". And despite buying a house around the corner from ex-girlfriend, he is not worried about bumping into her because she spends most of her time in America. »
