10 Biggest Movie Disappointments of the Decade

29 December 2009 2:18 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The ReelzChannel 100 began when we asked Leonard Maltin for his favorite Hidden Gems of the decade. His list led the web team into a general discussion about the best movies of the decade and — after no small amount of debate, arguing, and (we're not proud to say) some petty name-calling — we decided we'd better bring it to an end with a company-wide vote. Then it was just a matter of tallying up the votes and hoping for the best. Lucky for us, ReelzChannel is filled with a staff ranging from movie lovers to movie fanatics. What turned out isn't what you'll find on a critic's best of list — instead it's what movie fans really enjoyed.

In day seven of the ReelzChannel 100, we highlight the 10 Biggest Movie Disappointments of the Decade.

New Wachowski Brothers Movie Being Filmed?

8 December 2009 4:23 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Ever since completing the Matrix trilogy in 2003, Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski have directed only one movie (last year's Speed Racer), leaving many to wonder when they'd next get behind the camera. Ariana Huffington, of all people, may have given us an answer.

The co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post posted some photos on her Twitter account yesterday (along with some tweets) suggesting that she's involved in a new feature movie from the Wachowskis.

The tweets indicate that the movie will be a look at the current war in Iraq from the vantage point of a futuristic society. Check the twitpic photos to see more of Huffington's wild hairdo.

Warner Bros. Creates DC Entertainment

9 September 2009 1:33 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

The big changes to the entertainment landscpe continue. Previously, we brought you news that Disney was buying Marvel and now, its a new week and a brand new deal. This time around, news is out that Warner Bros. has decided that DC Comics needs its own shingle and so has decided to give it one, in the brand new form of DC Entertainment.

According to Warner Bros., the newly formed company will “fully realize the power and value of the DC Comics brand and characters across all media and platforms.” It will be run by Diane Nelson, former head of the Warner Premiere division of the company. Obviously, she’s pretty excited about her new job.

“The founding of DC Entertainment fully recognizes our desire to provide both the DC properties and fans the type of content that is only possible through a concerted cross-company, multi-platform effort,” said Nelson.

DC Entertainment created for superheroes to shine

9 September 2009 1:21 PM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

A brand new division of Warner Bros. Entertainment got announced today that should bring more of a spotlight to DC Comics' pantheon of superheroes and comic book properties. Called DC Entertainment, the wholly independent company will facilitate the useage of DC Comics characters across all Warner Bros. platforms including film, television, video games and other media. The division will be run by Diane Nelson, the WB exec who has shepherded the studio's Harry Potter franchise for the past 9 years.

Before I dump the full press release on you, let me offer my take on what DC Entertainment means: Warner Bros. has finally woken up and recognized the strength of their comic book division's ability to guerilla market its superheroes into global awareness. So we know that even a luke warm Superman movie will gross $200 million domestic while a perfectly formed Batman film can become the second highest grossing film »

Warner Bros Gobbles Up DC; Levitz Out

9 September 2009 10:49 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

In a not-unexpected move, Warner Bros. has taken complete control of DC Comics, renaming the company DC Entertainment and promising to integrate the publishing house's work into its existing divisions.

President and publisher Paul Levitz, an employee of the company for nearly four decades, is relinquishing those roles and will go back to writing comic books for the company. He will also be serving as both an editorial consultant and as a transition consultant for the new operation.

Rumors, of course, run rampant, the most persistent being DC's possible move to Los Angeles. Levitz has had an "I don't have to move west" clause in his employment contract, which adds fuel to this fire.

Unlike the Disney / Marvel situation, Warner Bros. is clearly moving DC's various operations into its mainstream, so it is logical to expect that a great many changes lie ahead. When Disney announced its purchase of Marvel, »

Gondry starts filming Green Hornet with Seth Rogen & Cameron Diaz

3 September 2009 1:45 PM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Nothing can spot Green Hornet now! Ok, there’s actually probably tons of things that could continue to interfere with this production going smoothly. At least it looks like Seth Rogen is keeping the weight off! One thing that is interesting is Nic Cage (who Variety reported was signed up …) is still in negotiating to be the villain.

Here’s the news release …

A classic character of film, television, radio and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen (Superbad, Knocked Up) as the vigilante crime-fighter. Production is underway on the Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) helmed film, which is produced by Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend, The Fast and the Furious) and executive produced by Michael Grillo (The Accidental Tourist), Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express), Ori Marmur (Evan Almighty) and George W. 'The Green Hornet' Production Begins, Tom Wilkinson & David Harbour Join Cast

3 September 2009 7:09 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

The day that many thought might never come has finally arrived. "The Green Hornet," for all the roadblocks and pitfalls it experienced along the way, has begun production.

According to an announcement by Columbia Pictures, the Michel Gondry-directed, Seth Rogen-starring film has officially started production in Los Angeles, California.

The release date's change to December 17, 2010 is also confirmed by the press release, and while several long-rumored casting notes are also verified, there are some new additions as well.

As previously reported, Jay Chou has joined the cast as Kato and Cameron Diaz is also on board as Rogen's love interest. It also seems that Edward James Olmos's off-the-cuff remark about starring in "The Green Hornet" has panned out, as his name is listed amongst the credited actors.

Nicolas Cage, however, is only mentioned as being in negotiations for the movie—meaning his involvement isn't quite as set in stone as once believed. »

Green Hornet Production Start & Casting Additions

3 September 2009 4:25 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Over the weekend, news broke that the upcoming adaptation of The Green Hornet was being pushed back to allow for more post-production time. The five-month delay, which moves the film from its original Summer release to a holiday opening a week before Christmas, sure isn’t slowing down production of the film.

In recent weeks, we’ve heard about several casting decisions for the Seth Rogen-starrer including that of Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) and Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou taking over the role as Green Hornet’s side-kick, Kato. More recently, there’s been two more additions to the growing cast of talented and recognizable stars: Tom Wilkinson and David Harbour.

The official press release is as follows:

Culver City, Calif., September 2, 2009 - A classic character of film, television, radio and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, »

In defense of Lego Zion

29 June 2009 12:08 PM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

The day will come when a movie is completely remade using Lego. It might be Star Wars, it may be Alien, it could even be Fried Green Tomatoes. But that day will come, mark my words.

There was a crazy gathering of passionate Lego enthusiasts earlier this month. BrickWorld allows brick-builders from around the world a chance to socialize and hang out with other Lego masters and to compete in building Lego creations. One entry came from Tyler Clite and recreated the last stand of Zion from The Matrix Revolutions. At about five-and-a-half feet long Tyler's creation features three Apu mechs blasting away at attacking Sentinels. Check out the detail on that shot up Sentinel as it crashes to the deck -- that's a lot of black Lego pieces.

No Need To Take The ‘Pelham 1 2 3′ For These Classic Subway Scenes

12 June 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

by John Constantine

As a subway commuter myself, I have to admit that the idea of getting hijacked by criminals looking to ransom off New York City resident and torture Denzel Washington is pretty terrifying. Then again, if it was John Travolta doing the hijacking, it would probably be hilarious and make for an entertaining day.

This week’s remake of “The Tacking of Pelham 1 2 3” is more than entertainment, though. It is a reminder of public transportation’s, especially the subway’s, vital role in creating kickass cinematic drama and action. Here, for your pleasure, are my five most gripping subway scenes in film history.

Men in Black 2 (2002)

There is a significant difference between riding the New York City subway system as a visitor and riding it as a resident of the city. A visitor never gets to ride these giant, finicky, subterranean monsters as a novelty. Residents are immune »

Officially Cool: Wicked Fan-Made ‘Green Lantern’ Trailer

There has been all kinds of talk about Green Lantern lately as the film production itself rolls out of the station and toward reality. And with it, just as with any major comic book franchise, comes quite a bit of fan expectation -- expectations that sometime manifest in odd and exciting ways. In this instance we have this very cool fan-made trailer for a Green Lantern movie that was posted up to YouTube by a user named JaronPitts. According to the description, this is his vision of a live-action Green Lantern with fanboy hero Nathan Fillion in the lead role. And the trailer works, mostly because it is so outside the box for a fan trailer -- very rarely does someone go so far as to cut in an actor's face, etc. To be completely honest, even though it isn't perfect, I am very impressed. Even more impressive is the choice of music -- which you may »
