Keanu Reeves Looks Bloated at Cannes Film Festival

20 May 2013 7:36 AM, PDT | Us Weekly | See recent Us Weekly news »

Whoa! Keanu Reeves, 48, was spotted at Cannes looking quite different from the slim-hipped looker he was a decade ago. The actor, whose last hit movie was in 2003, which saw the release of both The Matrix Revolutions and Something's Gotta Give, is at the French film festival to promote his directorial debut, The Man of Tai Chi, but he didn't seem quite ready for the spotlight on Sunday, May 19. Wearing baggy jeans, a gray V-neck tee, and a linen blazer, the former hunk sported stubble, [...] »

You're Old: 'The Matrix Reloaded' Came Out 10 Years Ago This Week

16 May 2013 | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

The Matrix Reloaded, released 10 years ago this week, is remembered now as a disappointment, but let's be fair. It was the top moneymaker of the trilogy ($742 million worldwide), and the reviews were mostly positive, if not exactly glowing. The reason it lingers in our collective memory as a dud and pops up on more than one "worst sequels ever made" list is that it caught some of the stink from The Matrix Revolutions, the trilogy closer that came out six months later and actually was widely considered to be an inferior product (just 36% positive at Rotten Tomatoes). Neither movie was a flop financially, though. Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions were the fourth and ninth highest grossing films of 2003, and together made $1.17 billion worldwide. In the...

Agent Smith Reappears Outside The Matrix To Plug Ge

14 April 2013 3:56 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It has been quite a long time since Hugo Weaving.s Agent Smith was one of Hollywood.s most frightening villains in 1999.s The Matrix. Sure, he appeared in both lackluster sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, but Smith wasn.t nearly as effective in a cinematic world that ceased bearing any resemblance to our own. But not everybody can be solely concerned with putting people in the hospital all the time; sometimes they also need to worry about the medical care that goes into these hospitals, as General Electric shows us in their new commercial for .Agent of Good: Connected Hospitals.. Essentially, Ge is showing us that they.re finally making their hospitals more effective by coordinating their electronics to all work together, which is something that a layperson might have already assumed about one of the largest corporations on the planet. And they chose to show »

27 March 2013 8:17 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The Wachowski Siblings are headed to TV by developing the 10-episode series Sense8 for Netflix.  The series will be co-developed with J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5).  There are currently no plot details aside from the vague description of "a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted", but in a press release, the Wachowskis said, "Several years ago, we had a late night conversation [with Straczynski] about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox 'Sense8' was born."  I'm not a big fan of Straczynski's work, but I'll see anything the Wachowskis put together.  Netflix is also continuing their savvy decision to pair with recognized talent like they did with David Fincher on House of Cards. Hit the jump for the press release.  Sense8 is set to arrive on Netflix Watch Instantly in late 2014. Here's the press release: Netflix will bring Georgeville Television's "Sense8, »

If you're ready to take the red pill again and check out 1999's The Matrix but maybe don't have the full 136 minutes at your disposal, how about a minute? Thanks to the guys at IA4 Studios, there's a 60-second, animated "speedrun" remake of the hit movie (via io9) online, which quickly runs through the movie's highlights in a way that may be more satisfying than The Matrix's two sequels.

'The Matrix' in One Hot Animated Minute

8 March 2013 7:12 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

"Put machines, dreams, Neo, dystopia, and more machines into a blender and chug it really fast - that's the taste of this condensed version of the 1999 hit movie."

That's how 1A4 Studio describes their own 60-second animated take on "The Matrix," a "Speedrun" that turns the Wachowskis' sci-fi action classic into an early Nintendo-era hand-drawn side-scroller complete with old video game sound effects. It hits every major plot point in the film — and has the guts to not include the "bullet-time" scene. (!)

We know these take a long time to make and are a ton of work, but is there any chance we can get one for both "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions" as well? Ten years later, we still have a hard time keeping track of just what in the hell is going on in those things.

Thanks to Badass Digest for the find. »

'Matrix' Directors Sued: Wachowskis Accused of Stealing Ideas for Sci-Fi Sequels

4 March 2013 10:55 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Lana and Andy Wachowski have been hit with a $300 million copyright infringement lawsuit by a writer who claims the duo stole his ideas for use in their “Matrix” sequels. According to TMZ, writer Thomas Althouse said that he submitted a script entitled “The Immortals” to Warner Bros. in 1993, and never heard back from the studio. Then, in 2010, Althouse said he finally got around to watching the 2003 films “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions,” where he “immediately recognized similarities to his own work -- including plugs in the back of characters' necks, robot-like ‘agents' dressed in suits, and characters trapped in a train station.” In addition to the Wachowskis, Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver have also been named in the lawsuit. Sued

4 March 2013 7:52 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Andy and Lana Wachowski are being sued by Thomas Althouse for allegedly using ideas from Althouse's unproduced 1993 script "The Immortals" in "The Matrix" franchise. TMZ reports that Althouse -- who didn't see 1999's "The Matrix" or its 2003 sequels, "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions" until 2010 -- is looking for $300 million in damages.

Althouse's issue stems from similarities between "The Immortals" and "The Matrix," though TMZ writes that it's the second and third "Matrix" films which are the subject of the lawsuit. Althouse submitted his script in 1993, one year before the Wachowskis were signed to a deal with Warner Bros. At the time, the siblings brought two original scripts with them to the studio: "Bound" and "The Matrix."

"The Matrix" films were a huge success for Warner Bros.; the three films grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide.

Neither the Wachowskis nor Warner Bros., the studio that released "The Matrix" films, responded to TMZ requests for comment. »

Wachowskis accused of stealing ideas for 'Matrix' sequels

4 March 2013 2:02 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

The Matrix directors Lana and Andy Wachowski are reportedly being sued by another filmmaker.

Thomas Althouse is said to have filed a $300 million lawsuit against the siblings, claiming they stole his ideas for the 2003 sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, reports TMZ.

Althouse alleges that the sci-fi films used elements from his script The Immortals.

He claims that he sent his screenplay to Warner Bros back in 1993, but did not receive a reply from the studio.

Althouse says that he only watched the Matrix movies for the first time in 2010, and recognised similarities to his film.

His original script allegedly contained plugs in the back of characters' necks, robot-like 'agents' in suits, and characters trapped at a train station.

The lawsuit is against the Wachowskis, Warner Bros and producer Joel Silver for copyright infringement.

The Wachowskis and Warner Bros have yet to respond to the lawsuit's claims.
