Brad Renfro was arrested during filming for attempting to steal a yacht.
In real life, Bobby Kent was much bigger than Marty Puccio. Though in the film, they are about the same.
A documentary was filmed for the American Justice TV series called 'American Justice' (1992) {Payback for a Bully}'
The word "fuck" and its derivatives are said 274 times throughout the film.
Producer David McKenna removed his name from the project. He was credited as 'Zachary Long'.
The character of Heather wears a t-shirt bearing the logo of the Rockstar video game company. In 2006, Rockstar would release an unrelated game, also titled "Bully".
The real Bobby Kent was Iranian. He moved to the U.S. in 1979 when he was six. "Kent" is his anglicized last name.

There is an audio option on the Region 1 DVD which changes the audio track to only play the background music.
Although the events upon which the film is based take place in 1993, the film itself is deliberately not set in 1993, but in 2001, to avoid any potential problems with anachronisms.

This was the beginning of a Brad Renfro's career downfall. Due to his drug addiction problems in his personal life, his professional career started to suffer, until his early and suddenly death in 2008. His tragedy was just like Corey Haim and many other child actors in Hollywood.

The plainclothes officer who arrests Marty is Frank Ilarraza, a real-life police detective who arrested the real Martin Puccio in 1993. His character is listed in the credits as "Detective Frank Ilarazza", playing "himself".
