The New Guy (2002) Poster

The theatrical version features a Patton (1970) spoof, while the director's cut features a Braveheart (1995) spoof which the director felt would better lead into the payoff at the end.
The O'Connell brothers improvised much of their scenes at the party, including the climbing on the swings (which they were not intended to do).
The concept of the high school likeness and the Scottish theme/mascot were modeled after the real life Glendora High School located in Southern California.
All of the scenes taking place at Rocky Mountain High School were shot at the existing W. Charles Akins High School. During that time, half of the school was unoccupied as it had just been opened and only had 9th and 10th graders. The marquee outside of the school was replaced to show the name of the film's high school which, combined with the newness of the school, created confusion for parents and buses trying to drop off the actual students.
The leaves on the trees outside of the first high school in the film were added by the crew. Due to the fall-time weather and the fact that the high school (where the filming took place) had just opened and had little landscaping, the director needed the trees to be buffed up.
The counselor's office in the first high school was the only room that did not actually exist in the first high school that 'Dizzy/ Gil' attends. The office was constructed in the foyer of the high school due to space constraints in the actual administrative offices of the existing high school.
Students at W. Charles Akins High School were not allowed to be extras in the film despite the fact that the film was partially shot there. This was because extras were required to be at least 18 years old, and at the time Akins' only had 9th and 10th grade students. However, several teachers and staff of Akins High School got to be extras.
When 'Dizzy/Gil' goes to the County Jail, and is talking to Luther, you can see a black flag symbol on the wall behind him. The Warden is played by former black flag front man, Henry Rollins.
During his cameo, Vanilla Ice is wearing an Insane Clown Posse T-shirt and a promotional badge for his 1998 nu-metal album "Hard To Swallow".
Danielle mentions that her Grandmother is Albanian. Eliza Dushku's grandparents emigrated from Albania in the 1920s.
Zooey Deschanel, who plays quirky Nora in The New Guy, also plays quirky Jess in the TV show The New Girl.
