Baldwin going 'Fishing' with Gellar, OddLot

Alec Baldwin has been cast as Sarah Michelle Gellar's love interest in The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing. Odd Lot Entertainment principals Gigi Pritzker and Deborah Del Prete said Thursday at the American Film Market. Media 8 Entertainment is repping international rights for the film at the market. Baldwin will be the male lead in the adaptation of Melissa Bank's best-selling short-story compilation. He'll play an older Lothario in the publishing biz who wins over Gellar's ambitious book editor. The film will be produced by Pritzker, Del Prete and Darryl Taja, with co-producer Linda McDonough. Production is scheduled to start in May, with scribe Marc Klein (Serendipity) making his writing-directing debut. »

Chelsom set to sink teeth into 'Food'

Peter Chelsom is in negotiations to direct The Food of Love for Warner Bros. Pictures. Denise Di Novi is producing the feature, which is based on the novel by Tony Strong, whose pen name is Anthony Capella. Set in Rome, the romantic comedy involves an art-history student seduced by the supposed culinary skills of a waiter masquerading as a chef, who turns out to be a Cyrano de Bergerac type named Bruno. Valerie Breiman adapted the book. Jessica Goodman is overseeing for the studio. Chelsom most recently directed Shall We Dance? for Miramax Pictures. His credits include Serendipity, with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, and Funny Bones. Chelsom is repped by Endeavor. »

Shannon is lady of court for Coppola

Molly Shannon has signed on for court intrigue opposite Kirsten Dunst in Sofia Coppola's Marie-Antoinette. Shannon will play a lady of the court, Anne Victoire, who also is Marie-Antoinette's aunt, with Dunst in the title role. The film is to begin shooting next month in Paris. Jason Schwartzman and Rip Torn already have signed on to join a mostly French cast. Coppola wrote the screenplay and is producing with Ross Katz via American Zeotrope. Fred Roos, Francis Ford Coppola and Paul Rassam are exec producing. Columbia Pictures is distributing. Shannon, whose feature credits include Serendipity and Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, most recently appeared in Kenneth Lonergan's True to You at the Tribeca Theater Festival. She also has a development deal with 20th Century Fox Television. Shannon is repped by ICM and manager Steven Levy at Framework Entertainment. »
