13 December 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The cast of Ocean's Eleven were banned from the world premiere of the Fellowship Of The Ring so they wouldn't steal the limelight. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts had expressed an interest in attending the star-studded London screening on Monday night and the after-party in Tobacco Dock. However film executives feared the A-listers would distract attention from the Lord Of The Rings stars Elijah Wood, Liv Tyler, Sean Bean and Christopher Lee. »

George Clooney Is Mr. Bad Luck Says Matt Damon

6 December 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

George Clooney spent downtime from filming heist comedy Ocean's Eleven trying to kick his gambling bad luck in Las Vegas - and failed miserably. Co-star Matt Damon joined unlucky Clooney in Vegas' top casinos and couldn't believe what he saw. He says, "He's the unluckiest guy at a table by far. I sat there and watched him lose 25 straight hands of blackjack in a row. After about 10 hands I was saying, 'You have to win. You're gonna win a hand,' but he kept saying 'I can't win at cards, it's just something.' Eventually he ran out of money so he said, 'Can I take out a marker?' and they wouldn't give him one and he said, 'I have a lot of money, I should have a marker,' and they said, 'Do you have ID?'" Damon ended up lending his pal $600, which he lost, and now the young actor regrets being so generous. He adds, "The next morning I woke up and there's an envelope under my door and there's a check in it from George - I thought, 'It's not like my friends from back home.' But in the little memo section in the check, which is where you write what it's for, George wrote 'for lap dances,' so if I was gonna cash the check it was gonna make it look like I had been lap dancing for Clooney." »

Clooney Fails To Humiliate Damon

27 November 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

George Clooney tried to embarrass his Ocean's Eleven co-star Matt Damon - by placing an newspaper advert appealing for people to vote him 'The Sexiest Man Alive'. The cheeky actor wanted to humiliate Damon by insinuating the Good Will Hunting star was hunting for votes in America's People magazine's poll. George, famed for his good looks himself, tried to place an ad in movie publication Variety reading, 'For Your Consideration: Matt Damon for Sexiest Man Alive.' Clooney laughs, "I knew it would kill Matt if people thought he was lobbying for it," but there was one small problem. "Variety wouldn't accept it," Clooney sighs, "even though I kept telling them it was just for fun." »

Julia's Stressful Time With The Boys

21 November 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Working with a team of bad boys for her latest movie Ocean's Eleven was a stressful experience for Julia Roberts - because they would never leave her alone. Julia was the only female in an all-star male cast of George Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Andy Garcia for the remake of the classic movie. And her time spent living next door to her boy pals was a stressful time for Roberts. She laughs, "I felt like the tomboy sister with all these motley brothers. It does make you paranoid when you walk into your room every night thinking, 'What has been booby-trapped'. George is certainly the ringleader." »

Brad Pitt: New York Towers Must Be Re-built

19 November 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Brad Pitt wants the World Trade Center towers to be re-built to show terrorists they can never beat America. Pitt said the move would be a positive symbolic gesture to show the country will not be cowed by the attacks. He says, "This catastrophic event is really - certainly for me - something which made us appreciate again what we have. It's basically reminded us of these freedoms. And to see us actually embracing other people's convictions, other religions and standing together, which is really what America was founded on. I want to see those buildings rebuilt. It's important to America to get our symbol back." Pitt made the comments in an interview with ABC interviewer Barbara Walters, featuring cast members from his new film Ocean's Eleven. »

Original Rat Packer Blasts New Clooney Film

30 October 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

George Clooney is under fire from original Rat Pack member Joey Bishop for re-making Ocean's Eleven. Clooney and his film partner Steven Soderbergh are releasing the movie in December starring Matt Damon, Brat Pitt and Clooney himself. But Bishop says the new film doesn't come close to the 1960s classic starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.. He explains, "Give me a break. There will only ever be one Rat Pack. It's a joke. All they are doing in the remake is a cheap impersonation of the original Rat Pack. People knew about Frank and his broads and Dean and his drinking. They knew that we partied together. With the new version, you've got five or six people who never had any association with each other off screen." »

Soderbergh Changes Ocean's Eleven

10 October 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh has changed scenes of his next blockbuster Ocean's Eleven in wake of the American atrocities in New York. The Atlanta-born director has reshot a sequence involving an explosion in the New York, New York hotel and casino in Las Vegas which features a replica of the World trade Center which was destroyed in the September attacks. Although the explosion was not an act of terrorism, Soderbergh has opted to move the fictional disaster to another casino. The movie maker will have to move fast though - the film is expected to premiere at the Bellagio Hotel in the gambling city on December 7th, coincidentally the 60th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. »

And he then put his hand in his own pocket when out for a spin on his motorcycle recently. Clooney came across a Melrose Avenue art gallery in Los Angeles and forked out $12,000 for a 1981 Andy Warhol portrait of American icon Uncle Sam. »

George Clooney Linked To Julia Roberts Split

29 June 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Reports are rife in Hollywood that Julia Roberts and Benjamin Bratt split up as a result of her 'deepening friendship' with actor George Clooney. Roberts and Bratt have confirmed their break-up, but have so far insisted that there was no third party involved. Roberts and Clooney, who filmed Ocean's Eleven together, have been linked in the past. In April, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported how the pair 'put on a steamy show on the dancefloor' during the Ocean's Eleven wrap party. Until recently, Clooney was dating British model and TV presenter Lisa Snowdon, but their relationship was reported to have ended several weeks ago, after she turned down his proposals of marriage. Roberts has something of a history for getting involved with her co-stars. In the past, she has dated Liam Neeson, whom she met on the set of Satisfaction, Dylan McDermott from Steel Magnolias and Kiefer Sutherland from Flatliners. »

Andy Garcia is again returning to his Latin roots, signing up to be executive producer of a TV movie about the life of a Cuban-American doctor. The picture, by Home Box Office (HBO), is based on Doctor Pedro Jose Greer's 1999 memoir Waking Up In America: How One Doctor Brings Hope To Those Who Need It Most. Greer founded Miami's Camillus Health Concern, a downtown clinic that treats the poor and homeless. This will mark Garcia's second Latino-themed project for HBO - the first being last year's For Love Or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story, a film based on the famed Cuban trumpeter's life, which earned Garcia a 2001 Golden Globe nomination. Garcia is currently filming Ocean's Eleven opposite a star-studded cast. »
