The greatest single-screen multi-player racing game ever
16 March 2015 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

This is best multiplayer racing game ever created - the unique gameplay sees characters race round quirky tracks as while launching attacks at each other and avoiding obstacles.

In multiplayer mode no split screen is needed so up to eight of you can race together using a single monitor.

To win points in multiplayer mode your racer needs to navigate the track fast enough to remain on the screen (the screen's perspective is an ever-moving 3D overhead angle). If your racer falls off the back or side of the screen as the pack races ahead, or you are successfully attacked by one of the other racers you lose points.

The controls are simple and quick to learn but adapting to the handling of your character and utilising their attacks is a challenge.

It is always possible to shave fractions of a second off lap times on the less hazardous tracks and on the more advanced tracks the challenge is to maintain speed while avoiding falling off ledges/into various liquids!

This gameplay engine does not seem to have been developed or used in another title since which is a great shame. This game had great potential to flourish in the era of online gaming as larger multiplayer groups could have raced each other online.

Here's hoping someone will realise this untapped potential for an online multiplayer racing game and develop a title with similar gameplay in future.
