The three members of Nirvana are inarguably some of the most creative
original talented musicians to emerge in rock since....? But better then
that they were a bunch of smart asses with a mission. They specifically
choose a a stubbornly butchered rendition of their most popular song to put
on their video as a comical trick on those who would look no deeper into the
band then it's radio played singles. If this video doesn't capture the
spirit of the post punk alternative movement I don't know what does. Small
glimpses into the band's opinions and behaviors, self mocking views through
the public's sometimes stupid eyes, corporate knocking, apathetic, smart.
It's all there. The band takes some of they're most and least popular and
throw them together on this 90 min montage of imagery and good
music.

This video is amazing. Originally conceived by the late Kurt Cobain,
this home video shows footage from various concerts of Nirvana's
"Nevermind"
tour. The venues range from the small heat-exhausted clubs like the one
in
Dallas where the song "Love Buzz" is presented to sold out stadiums like
the
one in Brazil. Aside from concert footage, we see a band backstage
fooling
around and obviously enjoying themselves. We also see montages of people
from the media, people in MTV and people of record companies. These were
meshed together very well and it clearly shows how the band was being
harassed by the media during the "Nevermind" tour.
Anyways, this video is brilliant. Look for outstanding performances of
"About A Girl," "Dive," "Breed," "Territorial Pissings," "Drain You,"
"Sliver" and "Endless Nameless."

Nirvana, my favorite band put this together during the summers of 1991 and
1992. This video shows different songs from various concerts
per-
formed by the band. The great songs highlight this video. It is one of my
favorite musicals, and is highly recommended for fans of the
band.

This was a thought-provoking, sometimes really friggin' confusing look
at the career of the band in their big fame moment in the late
'91-early '94 period, props to the producers for making it clear that
Kurt died without saying or showing it and the performances are nothing
short of cool, my three faves are: 1. Aneurysm 2. Smells Like Teen
Spirit on Top Of The Pops 3. and every other damn performance! This
also has some comical backstage and interview clips including the
really funny scene in which Krist goes into extreme detail about Hilary
Clinton's S&M fetish, Nirvanamaniacs will love it, but common viewers,
in the words of Kurt himself, "Stay Away!"

The period that the film covers was the peak of great Nirvana
performances:
the middle years when the band was now very musically tight and filled
with
the excitement of the small social revolution that the early 1990's was
bubbling with. They were the most popular band in the world and the
performances reflected all the excitement, confusion and passionate fury
that came out of being propelled into the mass media.
A few personal highlights are the wonderfully cathartic destruction of
"Endless Nameless" and the overwhelming meloncholly of the pumped
electric
version of "Something in the Way."
If you liked the footage of this film I recommend "The Year Punk Broke"
which is a similar documentary of a Sonic Youth tour with a beautiful
version of Nirvana (before the disillusionment of fame, etc)opening up
for
them all across Europe right on the edge of Nirvana's breakthough to the
world wide fame. Cobain is giddy and playing better than ever in this
footage which is a rare treat to Nirvana fans...the giddiness that is.
Plus
Sonic Youth is forever fantastic.

If like me any Nirvana fan has never got to see them Live before the tragic
end then this is the video for you. This video has many of the popular
titles performed at various arenas and has loads of backstage with nirvana
footage. Its like going on tour with the band its so cool.
Its also particularly funny on the top of the pops performance of smells
like teen spirit where they aren't playing and the facial expressions are so
funny.
Great for all fans of the band really, or anyone who like
grunge.

In the wake of the death of Cobain, a zillion schlock films came out
trying to capture the phenomenon that was this band, but this one,
originally started by Kurt himself and finished by the surviving
members- is the best one to see. Using montages made by Kurt, home
movies shot by Krist, and footage from concerts and TV appearances,
this film really gives the new and seasoned Nirvana fan a glimpse into
the humor and raw energy that was what made this band so special. If
you check out none of the other films, You should see this one.
Standout scenes for me included Krist's banter shot on an airplane
heading to a show somewhere, and the Top of the Pops performance of
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" where an obviously disgruntled Cobain, sick
of the song's overplayedness, and having to perform to a pre-recorded
soundtrack, makes the performance interesting.

Seeing this film alone made me love Nirvana. The film accurately shows
the
tour following their Nevermind success. Being a nonconformist band,
however, they take humor with them wherever they go. They don't have a
road
manager, they laugh at bands who "live in a bubble"...and they're
intelligent! They know who they are, what they stand for, and don't seem
cheap and superficial in any way. You see, Nirvana never wanted to become
a
popular band. This movie shows they never really care about money, and
instead focus on the love of their music. Its a real refresher from the
stuff that is now seen on MTV and VH1 that feature rock stars that live
"in
the bubble" and are past their prime ("Osbournes", "Newlyweds", "Where Are
They Now?")
The band's songs vary in quality. I recommend "Lithium", "Breed" and
"Something in the Way" as amazing songs during this movie. "Smells Like
Teen Spirit" was done in a very joking manner -- one that p***ed off
pretty
much everyone but viewers of "Nirvana Live! Tonight! Sold Out!" that is.
Its funny and unexpected.
Of course, you may ask yourself while viewing this film why they would
possibly put some of the stuff they do in the film. Why not only put in
the
concerts where things go right?
My answer is that they were rebels and nonconformists, and this video
being
Kurt Cobain's idea, he decided to have fun and show the band honestly.
From
doing a little research about him, I learned that he was a big fan of the
comedy "This is Spinal Tap", a rockumentary about a fake band on the road
where footage is shown about every possible aspect of their tour going
wrong
-- from deaths to stage accidents to a Yoko Ono character. I guess he
decided to take the honest route. The onstage gags are (mostly) done on
purpose. But yes, nonetheless there is footage that shows him *SPOILER*
getting tangled in camera-wire, getting in a fight with a bouncer, stage
equipment going out, things getting thrown at his head, etc *END SPOILER*
The interviews too are quite hysterical. The bassist (Krist) is
constantly
the third wheel. Whenever he would start talking, either Dave or Kurt
would
cut right in.
I loved the honesty of the band. *SPOILER* I thought the cross-dressing
was
funny and the make-out scene between Kurt and Krist a little bizarre, but
anyway *END SPOILER* I loved how they didn't really care they were
popular,
and basically did what they wanted. The movie also has a little homage to
their "wasted lifestyle" and the insecurity they have over the media
attention they never even wanted to receive.
Overall, a very well-done movie for any Nirvana fan.

This movie shows the best (before "In Utero" tour) of Nirvana, the crazy
stageshows and the best stage- and instrument-destructions, that Nirvana
and
especially Kurt Cobain were the best in the world at!
The movie has real good speed and the cuts are real good.....and of course
this "musicdocumentary" is one of the best, because nirvana is my favourite
band!!
This is the best video I have ever seen period.
It does a great job of showing Kurt Cobain and the
rest of Nirvana. It shows how they act off screen and not singing plus it
shows real good concert videos.
If you like Kurt Cobain you also need to rent Kurt
and Courtney. This does a great job of showing
his life and tragic death and it does shed a
lot of light of him being possibly murdered.
